This is America
Don't catch you slippin' now

“Thats a celly, its a tool” has never been a more understood statement in America than it has been right now. This song aged so so well

I love how this song always blow up everytime America's doing shit.
  • Remember when this came out and everyone was shook and now it’s just normal lmao
  • 2:15 Another layer of symbolism: Notice how there’s people running in front of the camera as well, but they go by so fast that you almost don’t see it. You’re still focused on the dancing. Basically even when the violence is right in front of you, you’re still not getting it yet and only pay attention to entertainment.
  • I noticed how the two times that he actually had a gun he was able to gently place the gun down on the red cloth and walk away without anybody doing anything. BUT when the kids are dancing around him and he holds up his bare hands and pretends to be holding a gun, everybody gets scared and runs. Maybe that's a comment on how "we thought he had a gun" is a prevalent justification for the shooting of unarmed black boys.

Imagine hearing this at the airport after arriving America

I think the biggest part of this song that still makes me go crazy is that... nothing has changed. even just the lyrics by themselves have continued to hold up to this day. i know things aren't gonna completely change in the span of 6 years, but getting significantly worse is horrifying. especially when you go on twitter nowadays and see that people are making fun of these acts happening now (acts as in violence and discrimination)

When this came out I was homeless, on drugs, and then jail. I now have a house, job, and husband. This song and “Clover Cage - In the Moment” are the two songs that helped get rid of my depression. I just want to send love to everyone and I want everyone to know things will get better. We are in this together..I love you 💕😊
  • Gotta watch once to listen to the incredible music arrangement, twice for the lyrics, three times to focus on Glover, four times to pay attention to what’s going on in the background, and once more to understand the metaphors used in the video.
