When Iraqi forces under the leadership of Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1991, a coalition of Western countries sprang into action. Known as The Gulf War, a military operation by Western powers has rarely been over so quickly, within 100 hours of the ground assault beginning, the coalition forces stopped their advance.

  • I served in Desert Storm. We should have went into Iraq and took over Iraq then. We knew this thing wasn’t over then
  • @jasonbirk7103
This all happened my senior year in high school. I wish I had paid more attention back then.
  • Fun Fact: the 2003 invasion was initially named Operation Iraq Liberation (O.I.L).... someone saw the irony and changed the name😂

Was not prepared for that final line… didn’t realize when this was produced

It's quite simple. It had a clearly defined mission and an end point. They went in, did the mission and stopped. Very well organized.

Imagine having a problem with a general who wins, because he can be rude and hurts your feelings. Now imagine being ignored as someone not worth paying attention to while the general gets back to winning the war.

Professor at 31:50 is a classic academic. Assault, the final phase of combat, is always attritional: my guys kill your guys. Trying to make some excuse for the Iraqis having inferior technology and having been placed at C4I disadvantage as a result of maneuver is a non sequitr: the goal in warfare is to accrue every advantage prior to engaging with and destroying enemy forces. It’s not an algebra problem. In the end, warfare is brutal and ugly, and finesse gives way to force.
  • Yes, the Iraqi and Kuwaiti war ended with the entry of ethnic infantry forces and the occupation of Kuwait within just one day. The Iraqi army was considered the fourth strongest army in the world at that time.
  • 47:31 to end ... What?! 😅 Needs production date and a few clarifying disclaimers. Love these "War Stories" docs. Thank you
