Inside Housing’s Give Fuel Poverty a Voice campaign, sponsored by Aico, intends to raise awareness of how it feels to live in fuel poverty and how the sector can support those experiencing it.

In this video we hear from Robin Parvin, a Vivid resident who is currently receiving Universal Credit as a result of an industrial injury, and Jack Whiting, a money advice and benefits advisor who has been helping Robin to find ways to maximise his income.

16 degrees in winter is dangerously unhealthy.. UK was energy independent then they privatised because "Privatisation is better". The rich get the pleasure while the poor get the blame.. it's disgraceful.

I had to help a friend who could not afford to heat his flat, i found him curled up in his bed cold and hungry. So i took him out and put one hundred pounds on his electricity meter. Then we went to the supermarket and stocked up on food for him. If i didn't help him he would most certainly have died of either starvation or hyperthermia

My brother took his own life 2 weeks ago he lost his job and couldn't afford Christmas for his kids left a note saying he felt a burden

Neither I nor anyone else voted for Net Zero yet that is the main reason we have the highest energy bills in Europe plus the fact that 80% of our power generation is foreign owned. That said I never put my heating on until the house drops below 10 degrees, I'm 73 and perfectly capable of putting on a sweater! lol.

People have no empathy. Expecting people to give up all comfort , like pets to heat their house is ridiculous. 16 in summer feels totally different thsn 16 degrees in winter.

16-17deg is normal for most of the summer. where I live in Scotland it is tshirt weather. learn to layer clothes properly if you feel cold at 16deg. I have lived & worked in hot & cold countries, each time your body adapts to the temp in 4-6weeks eg I have come home to Scotland thinking 25dec was "chilly", but adapted to normal temps in few weeks.
  • Heat or food, having to make that terrible choice. Nobody should have to go through that. Do the royals have to make that choice Living their ridiculous lifestyles?

this is what happens when the government prioritizes stupid policies. and energy will only get more expensive

Why on earth COMPLAIN about heating whilst sat in a tee shirt

Why are the houses so poorly insulated? I live in seoul. It is minus 13 degrees out. The wind makes it feel like minus 18 ( we have strong winter winds). The winds make is harder to insulate buildings. Still, I do not need heating. I have not turned on the heat and it is a nice 23 degrees indoors. True, we all live in high rises, that are better for insulating. The UK has nice balmy winters so I guess architects did not have to care much about the cold

I am wearing 2 jumpers and a jacket on the top, 2 pairs of trousers keeping me warm.

It depends on your age. When you are young, 14 degree is OK. For 70+ and sick people 18 degree is sensible.

Because of the criminal incompetence of the UK government, both Tory, and Labor, because they both have responsibility in this long term energy crisis that we are now seeing the fruits of, living in a house without an alternative source of heat, other then gas, and electric, leaves you at the mercy, of a very merciless market. Why are people not installing multi fuel stoves in their homes, and savaging for wood, or sourcing coal?
  • Why did he have a smart meter put in, they are lot more expensive for energy. Plus people that have meters are also paying more. The government is aware of meter issue. Has he spoken to the energy companies? Help is available.

When I was in UK. I saw empty boarded up streets under a constant grey sky, litter everywhere. Homeless people sleeping in doorways. A women with cat whiskers makeup casually walking into Tesco with her pajamas. Opioid addicts out of their mind and women so drunk they urinated on the streets. It's a sad declined country.
