Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane - the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let's get into it! Cheers, Mark :)

win / win. Hansa gets a half a million people learning about it's product, and our friend here gets a quality chipper.
  • Shows what companies to buy from. They are so confident in their product they let people show and give honest opinions.

It's like a comedy sketch when they start shouting at each other with the ear defenders on without the thing running

The story behind how Hansa started is amazing
I used to sell their products in NZ in the naughties
I’ve sold their PTO and petrol models
They were super popular with hire companies because of their durability
Most clients had had bad luck getting an effective small chipper that didn’t get stuck
I remember picking one up from their workshop in Te Rapa, Hamilton
Even then the hire companies were trying to buy him out.
Seriously fascinating bloke, an East German emigre back in the day when that meant escape!
We talked a lot of his trips around the Baltic in a sailing dinghy
He just knew sound engineering, I think he was awaiting his daughter? To join him in the business at the time.
I never once had any complaint about their gear once sold.
That’s tough when shredding small items vs chipping thicker tree material
Rare nowadays in the ever cheap world of Chinese knockoffs.
Great to see Hansa still going strong.

Kudos to HANSA for helping out a hard-working bloke like yourself! It’s a grand gesture..enough to make one a customer for life. Great videos as always 👍

Hi Mark, just want to tell you I bought a C13 chipper based on this YouTube video. I let Hansa know when registering. Keep up the quality videos. My wife and I think your hilariously entertaining and have inspired us to get our garden going. All the best, Carl
  • I love to see great companies like these working with Local you tubers, it’s great advertising and I’m really excited to see your hard work recognized.

OMG, I literally just bought one of these this afternoon! We obsessed over chippers for a long time and decided this was the best one for our needs. Not cheap, but a really useful machine. We’ve got 16 acres so there’s no shortage of chipping to do. Glad you like it. I’d hate to have to call and cancel the order. 😁
  • A multiplicity of thanks for a brilliant video about a brilliant product. I have had the smaller C7 Hansa chipper for a few years and every time that I use the machine I tell my wife that "I love that machine." I just have a suburban block but with lots of trees and I found after using electric munchers for many years that they are are tediously slow and totally useless for palms. My wife and I saw a Hansa promotional video online and I knew instantly that I had to have one. I have loved that machine ever since. After having a couple of humungously big, 36 year old trees (macadamia and Lilly Pilly) trimmed this year, the Hansa C7 handled the lot except for some very thick branches.  Not having to have a separate narrow chute to grind the thicker branches (like other brands do) is very good because little trimming of lateral branches is necessary to feed the big branches into the machine.

I would recommend that Mark gets a full face mask to use with the Hansa as occasionally a chip will fly out of the input chute and whilst goggles will protect the eyes, they won't stop damage to your teeth like a full face mask will. This is especially so when the rubber flap inside the chute wears out and disappears as mine has. Bunnings will sell a full face mask with attached ear muffs that does the job well and is not very expensively priced. I also recommend wearing leather cloves as when the chipper drags in a branch, you don't want to have any chance of having your hand abraded by the branch.

I have only recently started watching Mark's YouTubes and, like others, I have been influenced by his recommendations which seem to be stunningly honest appraisals of products. eg I have just installed my first Birdies raised garden bed and am delighted with it. The first plantings of zucchinis and cucumbers are rocketing away and I am delighted that I can tend the garden whilst standing up.

Well done, Mark! Your Youtubes are terrific!

I don't even live in Australia / New Zealand, don't even have trees/branches, and now I want one. That was so satisfying. Big ups to them for keeping production local. Ausiess helping Aussies, what a wild idea.
  • Aw man. We’ve been looking at these for a while now. I think my husband sold already. Will give them a call in the morning. Thanks Hansa team!
  • @BESHYSBEES
