Frieda Vizel is in the unique position of having left the extremely devout Hasidic Jewish community - often considered America's most religious community - while still remaining in touch with it through her work as a Brooklyn tour guide of the area in New York. I am a London Jew, and have done episodes with defectors who spoke entirely negatively about the sect, so this was a chance to hear a different perspective, and I found it absolutely fascinating speaking with Frieda. She has made videos about everything from the Hasidic marriage customs to a black Hasidic or Haredi Jewish woman called Sara Braun. Travel YouTuber and Arizona Jew Drew Binsky just did a great report on the hasidic sect, known as America's most religious community.

Chag sameach (Happy Passover) to those celebrating on the final night of Pesach.

You asked for it - more on the Hasidic community. What would you like me to do next? (and hit the like!)
  • I think this woman is so open and so honest, she left the community but she is not bitter such an Intelligent person
  • What a darling! She's so honest and non judgemental! As an hasidic woman I feel that she portrayed us honestly and wasn't eager to lie and make us look like a cult like some others that left the community do. Thank you Frieda! It's always a pleasure watching you!

Frieda’s channel is fantastic! Not a Jew myself, but totally facilitated with her channel and understanding a different culture than my own. She does a fantastic job showing the community with respect without it seeming like she is exploiting the community.
  • @bockgirl
This woman is so intelligent and thoughtful. She speaks without bitterness. I love how she delivers this information to people who would not understand it without her explanations.
  • As a non Jew I’ve learnt so much from Frieda!! She has a deep and genuine respect which opens a window through which to view Hasidic culture without the added anger/resentment of being OUT, OUTTED or OTHERED!! It’s so refreshing!!!!
  • Frieda is the gentlest, most insightful, intelligent and caring former-Hasidic I know. She has the best tours (which I recommend). She shows and talks about the community with a smile in her face which shows that she truly cares and respect them despite the pains she might have endured. I am always in awe to listen to her. Her vocabulary, her eloquence… all so inspiring. Andrew, you really nailed it! You are my favorite people! (This is not a paid advertising)

After reading Julia Haart's book, Brazen, this interview is so welcome. While Julia seems to be filled with so much anger against her community, Frieda is so balanced in her outlook. She manages to see the positives. Would welcome further interviews with her. On her channel , the interviews with Pearl are fantastic.
  • I am a Christian female and worked as a cleaning person for a large Hasidic family for over a year. I became close with the family and was invited to some events. It is a different way of life but thoroughly enjoyed it. I learned a lot and the daughters were interested in my life. I cleaned for other family members too. The wedding was a learning experience!

As someone who is not Jewish nor knowledgeable about the Hasidic community in any way, I've learned so much from Frieda's channel. She offers a respectful, and nonjudgemental perspective. I'm glad I was able to learn more about this thoughtful, caring, and intelligent woman.

I feel Frieda shows respect for her former community and her family. She really describes her life in the Hasidic community growing up.
  • Just leaving this here, after listening to the lady explain. The Hanukkiah is the Hanukkah Menorah which can hold 9 candles, the eight candles representing 8 nights plus the Shamash, which is the candle used to light the other candles each night. A regular Menorah has 7 branches, for 7 candles. It's meant to be like the Menorah in the 1st and 2nd temples. So every Hanukkiah is a Menorah, but not every Menorah is a Hanukkiah.
  • I'm a huge fan of balanced commentary. I have been watching Frieda's channel for a while. She's a pleasure to watch.
  • I'm not Jewish. I really like both Ms. Vizel and Mr. Gold. I do not understand why anyone would be affronted by these wonderful people. I guess I have a lot to learn! I hope Ms. Vizel gets everything she wants in her human journey.
  • As a Mormon, just watched 2 of Frieda’s episodes and found Andrews interview. Im actually in a faith crisis as a Mormon of 60 years. I appreciate the discussion of lifestyles as well as God. Thank you so much for sharing such new knowledge. ❤
  • @charlayned
I have a friend who converted to Judaism and who lives with her boyfriend on the edge of a more modernized Orthodox neighborhood. She tells me about things and I sometimes don't understand them, Frieda did a great job of explaining things. Thanks for the interview.
  • @mwalter3755
Frida brilliantly explains the complexities dividing the outsiders view and the Hasidic insiders experience. So wise and articulate. The interviewer does a good job as well, letting her speak and appreciating the content.

Frida we appreciate your work and contribution to the Hasidic community’s presence in the world and I think this is your way of being part in a way that works for you!

    Thank you!
  • I am ultra orthodox.

Frieda is the only ex-Hassid who does not bash the community.

    Mainstream media is very anti-religious.

So anyone who will bash a religious community is made into a celebrity, a best selling author.

That is what fuels a lot of the bashing, the $$$
    And attention it generates.
  • @pandorabryn
Frieda is so incredibly articulate and thoughtful! Thank you for your story.🙏❤️
