By 1967, war, racism, and poverty had become the dominant issues confronting America and the Freedom Movement. On April 4, Dr. King forcefully speaks out against the Vietnam War with "Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence," delivered at Riverside Church in New York City. Ten days later, in a speech at Stanford University titled "The Other America," Dr. King addresses race, poverty and economic justice. (At various times in 1967 and '68 he gave slightly different versions of "The Other America" to other audiences. - www.crmvet.org

This is the speech this America needs to hear today...
  • People don't know how much that bill he championed helped Italian and Irish Americans as well as Appalachians as a whole. I thank him for what he's done for us all and he never forgot us. I wish he was still here.

"The law cannot make a man love me, but it can restrain him from lynching me"
  • "This still resonates today, in "American society" We are a "undivided society" "Equal rights, are not equal rights for my follow man"
  • Sad thing about it a lot of people never heard this speech not going to lie this is my first time hearing it in entirely
  • Its so sad. That all you would have to do is change the date and this speech could be spoken today.

MLK is the man who changed history American . If he were alive now, he would not change his principles. His sermons and calls for peaceful settlement of conflicts, good and light resonate in the hearts of people, regardless of their race and to this day. The words of his last moving speech, titled "I have seen the promised Land," are especially prophetic in light of the fact that he was killed the next day. Killed, but not forgotten, because his incredible courage, decency and sense of justice remained forever in the hearts of future generations.
