DANNI is a body image coach and body positivity influencer originally from Florida, now living in LA. She went viral in 2023 for practising the act of Sologamy and committing to herself in a wedding ceremony. She told Love Don't Judge: "I'm judged because I spent $4000 on a wedding to marry myself." Explaining her choice she said: "Before the wedding, I spent a couple of years in therapy, just really trying to find myself. During my self-love journey I stopped drinking, I stopped having s**, I spent a lot of quality time with myself, taking myself on dates. Just really finding out what I like." Growing up, Danni never understood the idea of a man walking you down the aisle and said weddings were all about the bride. She came up with the idea to marry herself before COVID but didn’t have her ceremony until 2022. Her unusual ceremony hit the headlines a year later, and critics came out in force. One commenter said: "This is the dumbest, most narcissistic c*** I've ever seen!" Danni said: "The most hurtful comment I experienced online was people saying that I had to marry myself because no one would want me. What messages are we sending people of size that they are unlovable, that they are unworthy? That's not true, I can get married to a man tomorrow!" But Danni chooses to focus on herself, and the inspiration she can give to others. "I will continue to inspire women and show little girls that loving themselves is the most beautiful thing they can do."

Loving yourself does not make you a narcissist. Narcissistic behaviour towards others is what makes you one. It takes a strong person to search within their soul and banish their demons so that they can truly love themselves. She’s not hurting anyone, she’s just celebrating the love she found.

This made me tear up. We get told so often to not take up space, to make ourselves smaller (both literally and figuratively), to not make anything about ourselves… And that is so damaging to our well-being and love for ourselves. I love the idea of committing to love ourselves, whether that looks like a larger marriage or commitment ceremony, or a small intimate ritual with a few friends, or a private commitment to ourselves. The idea of marking it in some way is hecking bold and important. Proud of you!

I think the concept behind marrying herself is actually a really deep and beautiful one. To me, it symbolized the idea of committing to become the very best version of yourself you can be because that’s ultimately the hardest to commit to. I don’t know about LITERALLY marrying myself but let her do her thing!! She has a beautiful soul and it inspires me to see that she’s truly unbothered by other people’s opinions

We are quick to say something negative yet most of us don't truly love ourselves. You can't give what you don't have. I am happy for her that she started with herself. Actually everyone should marry themselves before commiting to other people.

I’m not hating, she wants to waste her money that’s on her. It is extremely egocentric and narcissistic though just saying. A good friend would tell her that…but she’s probably too self absorbed to have the real kinda friends.

I think people are so busy hating something that they don't understand to see the good in what she is doing for herself. She had a commitment ceremony to honor loving herself. It's kinda awesome if you think about it ❤
