โžก๏ธ Shortness of Breath
One of the earliest and most common warning signs of COPD is shortness of breath (i.e., dyspnea). This can occur during everyday activities, such as climbing stairs, walking, or getting dressed. As the disease progresses, shortness of breath may occur even at rest, making it increasingly challenging to carry out daily tasks.

โžก๏ธ Coughing Up Sputum
COPD can cause an increase in mucus production, leading to the frequent need to clear the throat and cough up secretions.

โžก๏ธ Wheezing
Wheezing is a high-pitched, whistling sound that usually occurs during exhalation. It is caused by narrowing or obstruction of the airways, which is common in COPD as the lungs become inflamed and the airways constrict.

โžก๏ธ Chest Tightness
People with COPD may experience a sensation of chest tightness or pressure, making it difficult to take a deep breath. This feeling is often the result of inflamed and constricted airways or the buildup of mucus in the lungs.

โžก๏ธ Fatigue or General Weakness
This can be due to decreased oxygen levels in the blood, which can affect overall energy levels and the body's ability to perform everyday activities.

โžก๏ธ Recurring Lung Infections
People with COPD are more susceptible to lung infections, such as pneumonia or bronchitis. These recurring infections can further damage the lungs and worsen COPD symptoms.

โžก๏ธ Swollen Ankles From Fluid Build-Up
Swelling in the ankles, feet, or legs, known as peripheral edema, can be a sign of COPD. This occurs when the disease begins to affect the heart's ability to pump blood effectively, leading to fluid build-up in the lower extremities.

โžก๏ธ Chronic Cough
Often referred to as a "smoker's cough," this symptom can be dry or accompanied by mucus production. The cough is usually worse in the morning and may be triggered by environmental irritants like smoke, dust, or cold air.

โžก๏ธ Difficulty Taking a Deep Breath
COPD can make it challenging to take a deep breath due to inflammation, mucus buildup, and narrowing of the airways. This difficulty can result in decreased oxygen intake, leading to other symptoms such as fatigue and shortness of breath.

  • All I can say is, if you don't smoke, PLEASE don't start, I sure wished I would have never, it a very difficult thing to break away from, I have COPD and still have a hard time quitting, hopefully the 3rd attempt will take hold!
  • @terry970
I have every one of these symptoms. I just can't breathe. Loss of sleep due to concentrating on each and every breath. Lips turn blue, need more air! Coupled with chronic kidney failure and congestive heart failure makes for a bad combination. I just keep on keeping on. Plus low blood counts low platelet count means no air when I need it most. When it gets bad I panic and gasp for air like I'm drowning. It's very scary. Oh I heard about making tyme tea with lemon and honey. It's supposed to open your airway and help one breathe. Good luck everybody!

Just had a LDCT scan for past smoking history and have emphysema. Iโ€™m an RN who works as a Cardiac nurse. I have felt SOB but after fixing a deviated septum this improved and my cough went away. It is a shock, but glad I found out early and can take care of it. I still exercise all the time without any complications.
  • I'm 65 years old and have been diagnosed with COPD !!! After years of smoking , vaping, it's all caught up with me. I'm on an inhaler and have to be extra careful about being around smoke. I found this video to be very informative about what's to come later on in my life !!! Keep up the great work and thanks for all the information ๐Ÿ˜ฎ !!!
  • @OU812..

I was told I have COPD 12 years ago by a respiratory therapist while I was in the hospital recuperating from bypass surgery. I denied it, but guess what's happening now? About four of the symptoms covered here. That and having my upper left lung resectioned and currently undergoing radiation treatments for the other lung. About a year or so ago I started needing the inhaler they were prescribing for me. My lungs start to feel like they're itching in the top, and then I go on a coughing jag until I bust out the inhaler. Not everybody gets this from smoking, there are other causes, and some people smoke without ever developing COPD. That's like pulling the trigger on a gun to your head that has at least one round chambered....

I'm 43 now just gone this January I've smoked a lot of cannabis from the age of 15 up to 21 and then started to smoke cigarettes but not heavily maybe on a bad day 10 and a good day 4/5 but also got on heroin at the age of 18 smoking it to start with then needed to inject it to feel the hit then from age of 39 went back to smoking it and from then till turned 41 I started having breathing issues shortness of breath coughing a lot and started having panic attacks and now only 2 years from then it was getting worse and worse to the point that i couldn't get up a flight of stairs so I already worked it out that it was COPD I'm now waiting for the results of my chest x-ray and getting over a bad chest infection I'm not smoking cigarettes but still on the vape I'm really disappointed with my self and am regretting what I have done to myself just hope that i can live a better life now I'm stopping

Watched my mother and aunty die of this and they suffered terribly, my mother was 36 when she got it, she lived 10 years with it, last 2 years she was in hospital a lot.
  • Fantastic presentation and the app your spot on with everything. You say I do not have every symptom you say but I'm sure at some point in time I will.
  • Thanks so much for important information. I have COPD and have all these issues. In past year iv had ling infection after lung infection since having a total lung collapse and craineotomy in the right frontal lobe. Went to hospital no symptoms to the brain cancer but got a severe lung infection in hospital and have had trouble shaking it. Pleurisy, pneumonia and lung infections over and over with only a small break of wellness in-between getting sick. I have constant pain in the right lung like it's going to collapse again. Iv been hospitalised a few times with the lung infections and shortness of breath with oxygen dipping to 86 at the lowest at this point. I do take 3 different inhalers. Luckily I have the best gp looking after me and amazing specialists taking care of my cancer which has been in my lings 3 times so far wich hasn't helped my breathing any. I do find this clip to be valuable information to keep as sometimes you forget what the doctors have told you. I can tick off nearly every ailment in the clip, unfortunately. I have a little ball breathing machine to help strengthen the lungs and a most recent machine to help called the flutter to help with breathing also. I do recommend both these products to help with lung exercise. I also recommend singing. I find that to be of great help to clear the mucus and strengthen the lungs also, and it's the most fun to do. ๐Ÿ˜ all these things really do help you just have to remember to do them. It won't reverse the COPD but will definatly help things be better along the way and makes a huge difference. I hope I have also helped others talking about my journey a little. Thanks again for the video clip. Stay blessed everyone and have a most funtabulous day! No its not a spelling error i make up words because im crazy like that and twice as fruity on sundays! Haha ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’ โค
