Inside of his book, adventurous Harold (Zachary Levi) can make anything come to life simply by drawing it. After he grows up and draws himself off the book’s pages and into the physical world, Harold finds he has a lot to learn about real life—and that his trusty purple crayon may set off more hilarious hijinks than he thought possible. When the power of unlimited imagination falls into the wrong hands, it will take all of Harold and his friends’ creativity to save both the real world and his own. Harold and the Purple Crayon is the first film adaptation of the beloved children’s classic that has captivated young readers for decades.

  • When I was a child, I had a nightmare about an evil, elderly Harold and his purple crayon. This trailer brings that memory back. Thanks.
  • @AlecGunther97
Shouldn’t Harold be a child and not a 43 year old man 🤔?
  • @reelnickoconnor
This didn't need to be anything more than what it already was, a great, simple, core childhood memory.

In India, back in the 90's, there was a TV show for children named "Shakalaka Boom Boom" in which the child protagonist had a magic pencil and whatever he drew with that pencil on a drawing sheet came to life/became real. We children loved it so much.
  • They won't stop till they squeeze every last drop of nostalgia out of us, huh?
  • what this trailer needs is more loud taiko drums to emphasize just how AMAZING everything is, and how blown away you should be by all of the action!

Harold and the Purple Crayon was my FAVORITE story when I was a kid (clear back in the late 80s/early 90s). One of the first books I ever read on my own (although my mom had read it to me countless times before I learned to read). I just saw a movie poster for this just before Easter and I freaked out because it never in my wildest imagination thought that this story would be made into a movie. The movie comes out August 2, and then 2 days later on August 4 is my 38th birthday. Best believe I'll be sitting in the audience with my purple crayon and a huge dumb grin on my face. I am SO excited for this.
  • I'm not gonna lie... this should've remained 2D animated. But we'll see how this movie is
  • @coelps1
Is it just me, or does this feel like Zachary Levi playing the role of Shazam, who's playing the role of Harold?
  • @Omnywrench
Alright, show of hands: who else thought this was some kind of Collegehumor-style shitpost joke when they first heard about it before discovering that no, they really are making a Harold and the Purple Crayon movie?
  • Zachary Levi priorly voiced a rooster and Rapunzel's once-thief love. He even played Dave Seville's nephew. Alfred Molina priorly voiced Double Dan and played Otto Octavious and Maxim Horvath.
  • I knew Harold would grow up, but I didn't expect him to grow up in the animated world.
  • @RubyMoney2255
So Harold grows up and ends up in the real world. That makes sense.
  • @dannysmith8204
I always wished there was a dark rendition of Harold and the Purple Crayon. A child who has a tough life but finds joy in a world where he can solve any problem he has with his creativity. I think that could be powerful.
  • I know of Purple Rain sung by Prince, the purple dress worn by Rapunzel, the purple tang, several cars that are purple, even some grapes are purple, Ariel's queen dress and several prom gowns as well as Black Panther's suit's fabric lines are purple. My mythical character, Megalo Station (Blaire Rastaneo) wears purple and plum; the darkest purple in the world and there's even Queen Emmaline (Hayley Atwell) with every light and dark purple.

There is a 50/50 chance that this movie will get mixed reviews
  • @Ash_Wynn
I see a lot of comments complaining about it? Here are my thoughts. this is NOT your book made live action, the book exists within this world, and somehow the crayon gets out. this is not changing the book, or pretending to be a movie of the book, it just found a way to use the powers of the book. I think that's the only right way to DO a live action of this. It's not a remake, its something new. Its a tribute to the original book and a new way for kids to enjoy it, and will probably introduce many more people to the original. A good thing, right?
  • I loved reading Harold and the Purple Crayon back in elementary school; fond memories.
