In the Muslim majority countries of S./S.E. Asia wearing shorts is more forgiven by the Muslim community for a younger age genarations, maybe because they're not expected to do their prayers frequently. In countries like Malaysia & Indonesia it doesn't matter, because almost every Masjid or even small prayer rooms do provide "sarongs" (rap around cloth) for anybody to perform their prayers in, and a usual scene. Personally I always carry in my backpack essentials a "jalabiya" & a small prayer mat when abroad anyways.. 😉

Best to wear shorts covering the knee as your thighs are awrah... Abu Dawood (3140) and Ibn Maajah (1460) narrated that ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Do not show your thigh, and do not look at the thigh of anyone, living or dead.”

Shorts are ok but in hot weather no good you will burn!!! Wear traditional clothes more comfortable they are.. loving your Volgs 👍🏼
