Daniel Ricciardo's start to the 2024 Formula 1 season has been somewhat shaky, and once again it seems like F1 fans have turned on Danny Ric. After Daniel's disappointing stint at McLaren, his return to the Red Bull family started to gain hype after it was revealed that Daniel had no choice but to alter his driving style which worked against his strengths, and further slowed him down. Since his return to a full time seat in Formula 1, fans began questioning his future and debating whether or not he is washed. Is 2024 another case of the fanbase turning on Daniel Ricciardo? Enjoy!

It's just been like 5 years of hearing "I still have what it takes to win a WDC"
  • @Addyboy0190
The thing with Danny Ric is talking about him he WAS a race winner but in terms of now, he IS marketable, not competitive, so far at least

the issue i have with Daniel is that when he was faced with actual competition to be THAT GUY at RBR with Max he chose to tuck tail and run instead of fight. Making perhaps the worst mistake of his racing career that he never recovered from leaving for Renault not giving the Honda engine a chance, which in retrospect with a huge L on his part. Then leaving for McLaren AFTER Cyril and Renault giving him everything he wanted and showed huge potential. his time is done he is not that guy.

We have to blame Netflix for portraying him as a superstar and the second coming of Senna himself. And that treatment has gone in his head. Today he is more of a celebrity than a driver which is why he is popular amongst new fans

I dont think many liked that he got that seat over Lawson in the first place
  • It’s not “just” 2 races. It’s been like this since last season. Having been out of F1 for 6 months isn’t an excuse anymore if you’ve seen Piastri, Lawson and Bearman who never raced in F1 or Alonso and Hulkenberg who had been out of F1 for years. It’s Daniel 😞

I don't hate Daniel Ricciardo, I hate some of his copium fans.

I think Ricciardo at this point is just sad. Riding on the coatails of a really really good season 10 years ago and some good performances. He is not competitive anymore and his funny persona now just feels kind of like that dude in his 30s who hangs out with high-schoolers

It pains me to say it as a RB and a Ric fan but his driving doesn’t feel the same. The aggression he had on the offensive, overtakes just have vanished in 5 years. Perhaps it is really time for someone like Liam to take that seat and actually put pressure but my hopes are there I want to believe in him

I mean ffs it looks so bad when Tsunoda beats you. You cant just go forever on your past qualifications. People are rightly so turning on him despite his charisma.
  • @doctorknow
It's over man. There are many champions waiting in the wings for a seat in F1. Some of the current grid has to go and keep the cycle alive
  • @KMSBoss2010
Yeah all this but the second he gets some kind of decent result and everyone will be saying "what a legend", "goatcardo" and all that shit. F1 fans are such fickle idiots...
  • @barcafan94
Ricciardo is a one trick pony. Every driver can be fast with a car that suits them perfectly, but only the best drivers can adapt to a difficult to drive car that is against their preferences.

I have never disliked Danny Ric, but imo it's time to step aside and let the younger drivers have a chance. I think Danny Ric can still be valuable to a team, but F1 is more exciting, and more marketable, when there are young talents going up against seasoned world champions. No hate on Danny Ric, I would love to see him elsewhere in motorsport, but I would much rather see young up and coming talents in F1 seats than watch him underperform for another season. Young talents are more exciting, even when they struggle imo.

I've lost interest in following Daniel and I find Horner's infatuation with him a bit cringe.

My primary issue is this “it’s just 2 races” is not accurate, it has been way more races since his return. At what point is it enough races? For Nyck, it was 10 races. Guess what, he has already raced 10 races. And that’s if you completely write off the 2 yrs at McLaren as a one off. Unlike a rookie you could argue needs time to develop and mature, this is a 34 yr old driver who has been on a decline for now 4 years. Much rather see Liam or some other rookie than an aging and declining driver.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Daniel Riccardo's first win in Montreal. In 2014 Riccardo was the fresh younger driver who definitively beat his 4 time world champion teammate. In his peak Riccardo was one of the best drivers on the grid and the fact he was able to compete for race wins with Hamilton and Rosberg when Merc where at their strongest should never be taken away from him. Sadly a bad career move to Renault in 2019 has lead to a long decline leading him to become a shadow of his former self. F1 is in a situation where there are not enough seats for the large amount of talent coming in. The justification for keeping an arguably past his best 13 year veteran when there are so many other drivers deserving of seats (including one Liam Lawson who proved himself last season when Riccardo was injured, not to mention the young drivers coming through the Red Bull Junior Team) and you wonder why Riccardo is still here.
  • Watching Daniel from 2014-2020 felt like watching a Racing driver with a genuine chance of being WDC. Even when his chances became low during Renault, he seemed like a real fighter who wasn’t about to give up despite a setback. Now it feels like we’re watching a driver who’s publicity value is the only reason he’s wanted by teams, with disregard of the fact that with his experience he should be having no issue beating a driver only in his 4th season. Personally, I think there’s a chance if he can’t beat Yuki on pure merit by the summer break, Marko may pull the plug and throw Lawson in the car.

A big part of it for me is that he just didn't deserve that seat period. It would have been fine if it was a Hartley 2018 or Albon 2019 situation where they didn't really have juniors at the ready but this time they had Lawson who has done everything they asked and proved that he was ready. Him being in VCARB defeats the whole purpose of the Red Bull junior academy and Toro Rosso's existence in the first place.
