The Kurobe Gorge Railway in Unazuki Onsen town was an absolute highlight for us! Although not completely unknown, this place definitely deserves more attention! To finish the night off we tried two different michelin starred meals!... well not really we got the instant ramen from Tsuta and Nakiryu, both michelin starred ramen restaurants, but it was still really tasty!

If you are planning to go tickets are about 3900 yen (about 50 AUD). Make sure to not go on a public holiday like we did!

Ahahahaa...I went to Kurobe n 2017. It was amazing and beautiful as i went in November and got to see the fall colors. But you know what...I found out about those pancakes on that trip as well! I didn't know what they were exactly but they looked good so I bought some for the trip to Kurobe since it required getting up first thing in the morning. I then found out it was pancakes with butter in a circle and maple syrup in the circle of butter so it wouldn't leak out. As they discovered it get COLD as night fall approaches so you should be prepared. Especially if you go during the fall. TIP: I filled my plastic bottle with the free hot water they have at the station and used it to help keep me warm on the way down....just be sure your bottle is rated to hold hot water. For those of you worried about staying at a traditional roomed hotel / ryokan. That smell is from the tatami (straw) matts. I personally love the smell of tatami matts. I'm not sure if something was wrong with their room. Also most traditional places will only have that one room and you'll need to let the hotel know when you will be back into the room and they will lay out your futon to sleep on. It's usually very comfortable.

Hi, is it a round-trip? From Unazaki go to Keiyakidaira and then go back to Unazaki? Or is there somewhere to go from Keiyakidaira instead of going back?
