I bought Shortcat's controller to prove him wrong, but now I can't stop winning

I bought ‪@Shortcat321‬'s Gamecube controller for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to find out what is the best controller for the Nintendo Switch. Shortcat recently made a video stating that the Gamecube controller is best for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and I thought I would test out his theory.

Shortcat thinks the Gamecube controller is best for Mario Kart for two reasons: Motion Glider (Glider Vectoring) and Soft Drifting. I explain both concepts in my video and also touch on the biggest disadvantage of the Gamecube controller for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (which Shortcat also explained): No motion controls = no shake tricks.

Be sure to check out ‪@Shortcat321‬ original video here:

To all new viewers, welcome! I’m Louis G (pronounced ‘Luigi’) and I hope you enjoy my slightly above average Mario Kart gameplay😂

Thanks for giving it a try! Also it was awesome watching you try to do motion glider on all the gliders. It's definitely not an instant level up to your skills, as you suddenly have to worry about falling out of the glider, and how to not shoot too far to the side. For anyone who has never tried motion glider, it's harder than it looks to control!

Smash players have sworn by it for over a decade, now it's Mario Kart's turn for the reign of the GC controller

i have to say i never used the shake-tricking and didn't even know it was a thing until a few months ago lmao even with motion controls turned off. i tried the gc controller out too and i cannot get used to the motion gliding bc of having to switch to the d-pad fast and precisely 😭 i'll stick with the pro, as it works perfectly fine for me
  • I loved the endless first places then at the end you showed the real struggle 😂 Always love your videos! Great energy and fun to watch, keep it up Louis G!

For those who don't like the gcc layout there's also the progcc which lets you convert any switch pro controller into a GameCube controller that still works as a pro controller if you need it to be one

I'm mainly a PC gamer, but I've played for almost 2 months straight MK8 online on a Switch Lite. I'm stuck around 10K, but when I connected my 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth last weekend I was raking in those fucking points and all those techniques seem to make sense! Conclusion: I'm buying a normal Switch this week and I'm gonna experiment with all the different controllers.

Would you ever consider switching controller?
  • I didn’t even know shaking to trick was a thing outside of Mario Kart Wii
  • @gammajuice_
its quite funny seeing people bothered by not being able to shake on tricks, because I never even knew you could do that, so I'm just able to time tricks perfectly 😂
