Northampton is the county town of Northamptonshire in England's East Midlands region.

Its history goes back at least as far as Norman times when it was recorded in the Domesday Book (1086) as 'Northantone'. Northampton had a castle built around this time, which was partially demolished in 1662 by order of Charles II as retribution for the town's support of the parliamentarian Roundheads during the Civil War.

Just years later, in 1675, the Great Fire of Northampton struck, destroying most of the historic buildings in the centre.

Northampton developed as an industrial town in the 19th century with the construction of the Grand Union Canal linking London to Birmingham, in this case via the Northampton Arm. Its industry was primarily footwear and leather manufacture.

There are a number of sporting teams in the town including Northampton Saints (rugby union), Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, who play in the town, and of course, Northampton Town Football Club. Cobblers! (no, it's true)

The walk takes place around the town centre. Along the way we see All Saints' Church, which was built after the Great Fire of 1675. We also see the Northampton Guildhall, which was completed in 1864 in the Gothic Revival style.

Nice nostalgia for me. I use to live there back in the 80s. I use to frequent the King Billy pub a lot back in 88 to 89. I was a goth and had great craic as a youngster lol in there. I also lived in Hackleton village from 84 till 88, about 7 mile from the town, before moving into the town centre. Thanks for sharing. 🙂👍

I never quite get why some people dislike this town. I've grown and lived here for 13 years and a half and moved from 4 houses with my family. Even though its a very European-ish looking town its very nostalgic to look at even when you've grown here. Also I heard they're gonna improve the town centre when lock down ends. Before lockdown Town centre used to be filled with people but it's much more peaceful with less people. I don't think I'll ever be leaving this town. Although it's your opinion if you dislike the town itself.

Great tour! Northampton is a very beautiful town. It has really fabulous buildings. It is sad that that streets are so empty as also happens in towns of my country. Thanks for sharing! Greetings from Spain!
