Looking for love online is becoming more popular, but imagine your match turns out to be a scammer based in another country. The CBS Investigates team has learned these romance scams are becoming all too common, and investigative reporter Tim McNicholas has found some people are getting hit with a one-two punch.

Go to church, park, meet real friends/people.

Rule #1: Don’t give money to people you meet online. Especially the ones who reach out to you. Scammers ruin it for everyone.

Saying that it can happen to anyone is an insult to everyone who possesses an ounce of common sense.

Ms Connie you were NOT engaged to that man! Wisdom and discernment are two of the greatest gifts we’ve been given. You put yourself at great risk when you fail to use them.

It took $ 468,000 before she realized. 🤦🏻‍♀️

even with that photo blurred out, you could tell that guy was way too good looking for her. The most important thing for a female is to be aware of where she falls on the looks scale. Real men on dating sites who are looking for a partner are probably gonna be a little less good looking than you would like. Once you get to know them, you might find them more attractive, especially if they treat you nice and take you out and pay for your dinner, but if you find them extremely handsome from the get-go, that’s a bad sign. Connie was obviously a very pretty woman in her youth. She’s extremely wrinkled now that guy was too good looking for her.
  • Smart woman to describe it as an addiction- that’s exactly right. Anyone can fall for these.

Should have donated to charity and the grateful kids send you month or frequent cards.

This isn't really a love scam, this is a elderly thing.
  • ANYONE YOU'VE NEVER MET ASKING YOU FOR MONEY IS A SCAM. Full stop. How is the first request for money not the end of it? I dont get it.
  • @ronaldolamont
If someone asks you to send them money, and you willingly send it to them, is that really a scam? 😂

The pictures are fake, the story is fake, the relationship is fake. Wake up, like she said it’s an addiction.
  • 😅 One thing you can do for online daters such as women just say you live in a shelter you're homeless and right now you've got a job interview for having a job in McDonald's you will avoid all these hideous scammers
  • All this technology we have and people are still falling for the same old schemes
  • Older women need to understand that men are NOT interested in them. And I'm a woman saying this. Get off the dating apps!
  • She had an amazing marriage to a man she knew most of her life and was married to. He dies and she's not satisfied with that long term marriage that so many never get even once in their lifetime. She willingly subscribed to an online service to hear the words she wanted to hear. She wasn't scammed, she was using the caller for what she wanted just as much as he used her.  A victim personality will always find an abuser, and vice versa. They are drawn to each other, you can't be one without the other.
  • Say what!!! Wow….well I guess people need to watch catfished …..there’s a new episode every Wednesday…..😊
