There are plenty of celebrity chefs who are known to throw occasional shade at each other, but Eric Ripert tries not to go that route. The easygoing chef admits he wasn’t always that way, but he gradually learned that an angry attitude just didn’t work in a kitchen, and he took a much more laid-back approach, inspired in part by his discovery of Buddhism. Ripert is also famous for being friends with the late Anthony Bourdain, and they worked together frequently on Bourdain's show Parts Unknown. Let’s take a look at the untold truth of Anthony Bourdain’s friend, chef Eric Ripert.

  • Eric Ripert, your restaurant, your book On The Line, your lifestyle - none loud or controversial, but all the truest example of the peaceful greatness a restaurant life can be.
  • Thank you for sharing positive and kind news about Chef Eric Ripert. The world needs more stories that reflect the inherent goodness of people, especially when a tragic event has touched a life. Thank you for your kindness.

I will never forget Anthony I loved watching his show!! I won't forget the day it was a day after my birthday and I had fallen back to sleep and the T.V was on so I heard his name and I woke up and then I heard had died and what he had died of and I was in shock and my heart was heavy for him that life had gotten that bad and he couldn't take it. And not able to reach out. I suffer from depression also but the voices in your mind the voices were so loud and you think its never going to stop. Its hard but you know that it must be bad or he would have stayed for his daughter if nothing else. I will miss him!!

So sad. I've lost a good friend to suicide, and to learn that Chef Ripert had waited for him and dinner, and then again at breakfast, only to find he'd ended his life in a short momentary lapse of reason, is just tragic. I hope Chef Ripert can forgive his friend for it, and feel peace for him. Anthony Bourdain has so many fans because his personality was completely down-to-earth and relatable. He was just a regular guy. He seemed to sometimes think that fans forgot this or didn't realize this about him, but we didn't. He was just a guy; a regular guy, who was happy, and sad, who loved good food, family, and friends, and found excitement in travelling to new places and experiencing foreign cultures, as so many humans love to do, dream of doing, or at least want to peek at and observe from afar. An interest in the new, the different, the foreign, and in food, is all human nature. He had an understanding of and respect for people, that all people should have, and he was a brilliant poet who could weave a narrative, both verbally and in print, that could make you laugh, relate, and want to jet off on your own adventure. He truly deserved all of the fame he came into with his brilliantly funny and poetic, and honest 1999 article in the New Yorker. He was up for the adventure it opened to him, and so were we. He was just a guy, who liked things that we liked, hated things we hated, and let us tag along on his exciting adventures. He will be missed here on Earth.
  • It's good to see a world class chef that doesn't have franchises all over the world, that they rarely visit, and don't cook in. That's very noble of Ripert, not leasing out his name to make the quick buck.

Can't imagine losing your best friend and finding him. My condolences 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
  • @knucklehoagies
He has that very typical French attitude.... he wants to be successful but just up to a point where he can be content and where his life can still be simple and balanced.
  • Finding his best friend like that must have broken his heart. I am so sad that Tony felt that was his only way out

My respects to Ripert, I knew he was an angry chef back in the day glad he changed that so old school bad habit of yelling at your cooks.

My sadness at hearing of Anthony Bourdain's death was instantly transformed into horror when I heard that it was Eric Ripert who had the misfortune to be the one to discover his body. That just should not have happened. I feel so sorry for Mr. Ripert. I hope he finds peace himself.

I cant begin to imagine how it would be to find finybody dead let alone your best friend. Its hard enough to lose someone you love let alone in a situation like this. I hope time can take Chef Ripert's pain away at finding his buddy. So damn heartbreaking the whole thing. R.I.P at last Chef Bourdain and heartfelt sympathies to Chef Ripert.

My family and I used to set around together and watch his show.. so real, so genuine. We learned a lot from these two, traveled with them while at home, they took us places, to unknowns... miss the show very much. So sorry for the loss😔

Eric is an incredible Chef and person and he shared a lot in common with Bourdain because they both had a good work ethic and worked from the bottom up to the top. They both shared a passion for good food. Eric lost a very dear friend, and my thoughts and prayers are with him.

I really enjoyed watching Anthony Bourdainss, Parts Unknown series. I have read so many contraversial posts from Utube ECT. I hope there's no truth in the posts and tweets that his girlfriend at the time, Asia Argento was a red witch. Its sounds over the top, but regardless if its true or not? He was a great storyteller, Chef, father, friend and husband. May he find peace and happiness on his journey. He will be missed! He is gone, but not forgotten! I will continue to watch reruns of my favorite episodes that Anthony made. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Thank you Anthony, for bringing me to the beautiful and exotic places in the world! And for giving me a very realistic look into how unique and interesting it is to see how other cultures eat and live. I have a deep respect for these other cultures and for the truly amazing and generous people that you have shown to all of us on your journeys thru Parts Unknown. May your journey be an awesome one!
  • I'm so sorry Eric / Chef Ripert. I lost my best friend 31 years ago in a car crash, and I'll never be completely over it. My condolences to you and yours
  • Prayers without ceasing for Me. Bourdain, his beautiful family and Mr. Ripert without ceasing. Prayers for their healing and peace.

Sad loss. Almost 70,000 viewers and this what humanity has come down to. Royals, politicians, Hollywood now the chefs.
