S14 E8: We're Selling the Soda Fountain. Here's Why.

Thank you for so many things. This episode realigned my thinking on a thick heavy situation that I’ve been praying about. God, of course, is present but I was having trouble shaking off the ‘pull’ of it. Your words or quote, ‘ What you focus on will grow good or bad.’ This hit me like a brick wall, but a brick wall of freedom! It’s like the yeast Parable in the Bible. What you feed will grow, and we need to get the yeast out of our lives. Thank you sis, your podcast, you and Christian’s faith and God really got our family who are not homesteaders through the plandemic as well as some little odd things that have occured in life. So glad you guys are here, I think God for you and I pray for your continued success because I know that He is guiding y’all every step of the way to help so many of us in so many different ways. We started watching yall because of the gardening lol thanks for planting a good garden in our heads and hearts so we could get through all this mess. I now feel free to enjoy the blessings God has for us. ❤

I love the soda shop and glad i could visit while still a Prairie Homestead business. We travelled south from the top of wyoming during a cross country trip just to fill my hankering for a burger in Chugwater WY!

Good Luck on selling the soda fountain. There is nothing better than a small town restaurant. I love our favorite little restaurant. It’s a 10 mile drive. It has good food, reasonable prices, and a friendly staff.

Honestly I'm not surprised you're selling the Soda Fountain. You and your husband are the people that take on what seem impossible challenges, get them moving, then pass them on to others so you can take on the next challenge. Once the Soda Fountain seemed to be running smoother, I was wondering what the next challenge would be. I know running a restaurant is never going to go perfectly smooth but I'm excited to see what the next challenge you take on will be. I hope you find a wonderful new owner to keep it going strong

Good Luck and I had an old time Icecream parlor for years..I had to close it in 2018 I owned it and ran it from 16 years But life just happens. My mother-in-law father-in-law came to move in with us after losing their house and then she caught cancer so I took care of her till she passed. And Now I take care of my father in-law and Husband who is ill with Cancer as well ., So we kinda Homesteading in the city .. We do big Backyard Garden and Front yard as well 🌱 Shop name in Houston,Tx Del’s Icecream shop.. I had cool vibe table and chairs and a booth all Coca Cola style..and I was in a neighborhood close to three schools so I had a lot of kids and parents and some of the schools will do field trips to come over and bring the kids and I also got involved with my community and I became a community activist and now that I’m home, I do a lot of community activist at home., I feel like I’m super busy more than I was at work taking care of two men, the house the community but I enjoy it. I like to go to bed tired my garden means a lot to me I like to be outdoors. I’m trying to revamp it make it more Homie and relaxing. We have a new grandbaby and I want her to come to the back and see the flowers And Last night dinner came from my garden. I had some glaze carrots, and some broccoli pasta seeds starting now I’m excited. Wish you luck on the sale

Thought that thumbnail looked familiar -- I stopped and had a lovely lunch in your soda fountain when back in Wyoming to visit family over Christmas (lots of driving back and forth to DIA). Thank you for all the good food over the years.

This really helped me to face letting something go. I need to read the book you mentioned. Also, the “bottleneck is attention.” Thanks. But I’d also like to make a suggestion: a video tour of the Soda Fountain, more detailed than past videos, to show to prospective buyers. You are wonderful. I’m sure I’ll disagree with you someday, but honestly, when you talk about or explain something, I really grasp it. Thank you for being so candid in what you say. Had no idea you were in Wyoming! Thank you for the book recommendation, going to check it out asap. Speaking of homesteading, I'm putting out the word on Natrona County law changes. Not trying to hijack your comment section. It was very hush-hush, but very impactful. We bought a small parcel of land NE of the city with no public utilities and no water. I put up a smallish fenced area, got my chickens battened down for the winter, and started building a smallish shed-8'x16. About 5 weeks ago we got a letter from the county that about did me in. Here's the nutshell- we must have a building permit for a primary residence on the property before we can put anything on it. Not so much as a doghouse, or a chicken, can be on the property. When we get a building permit all of these issues go away, and we will have (and these were her words, not mine)- "the privilege of using the land". The building permit gives us only 12 months to complete the build. Here's the clincher. I have to have our personal property OFF of the land that we fully OWN, and if I don't, it will be: $750/day fine; Jail time; "Possible" confiscation of our land. My husband and I had a realtor involved, we asked the questions and made clear our plans. Not one word was said about those changes to the law. Husband is disabled, my son and I were the ones doing the work. So, anyone interested in a couple of acres 15 minutes from fantastic dining with beautiful mountain views? Do your research and take no unofficial person's words as fact. We're like, now what?

The one constant in life is: CHANGE!!

I had the privilege of knowing a rather wealthy farmer when I was a teenager. He said that if you want to farm, have other investments so that you have a cushion for bad years, he owned rental property, a painting business, a drive thru grocery, I still miss that business from when they sold that one. etc. Oh wait, was that relevant? LOL yeah, you remind me of that old mentor just a bit.

Good for them for their ambition with this project, but I saw this coming even back when they purchased it. Now with the cost of food, I can't imagine how costly it is to run a food-based business like a restaurant, not to mention the constant search for reliable workers and having to fill in when the place is short-staffed, which is most of the time.
