H&K USP Compact .40: Couple Notches from Perfect

I have lots of experience behind the triggers of H&K pistols and they do have a lot to offer. They're tough, accurate, reliable, rust resistant, and well-made. But even after thousands of rounds through the H&K USPs like this one, I'm still not a fan of the gun. The competition is just better in several areas. I find the trigger guard protrusion (inside the guard), the flexing trigger, the weirdly placed magazine release, and proprietary light rail all very annoying. Even H&K pistols like the P2000 or Compact Tactical inherit these flaws. These points detract from an otherwise fine design for me. And even though it's a compact handgun it still weighs over five ounces more than a full size Glock! Add to that a more expensive purchase price and that sinks it for me. For my money I would go with either Sig or Glock over the H&K USP series.
Correction: I meant to say DA to SA trigger module (being the standard)

Really? Weight is a HUGE issue with you - "you can run faster" with a gun that weighs 5 ounces less??? Wow. just eat one less donut in the morning, and you're back even. Hopefully Glock is paying you for this HK review. Glock, Glock, Glock....Waste of ten minutes of my life.

Nutn: FYI, the HK Compact .40 holds 13 rounds not 12. Secondly, you dissed the HK when you said, "...for my purposes, I'm comparing it to a Glock 17..." (a full-size Glock 17 9mm which holds 17 rounds). That's a flawed comparison. All things being equal, you should have compared the HK Compact .40 to the Compact Glock 23 .40 -- which only holds 13 rounds in its original magazine. They are both equal in that regard until you insert an extended mag in the Glock. Try to GET REAL, as you said.

After trying out this gun at a range, I traded in my Glock 23 for a USP Compact 40 DA/SA. For me, the accuracy and ergonomics are incredible and the attention to details just outstanding. Comparing this gun to a Glock is like comparing a Toyota to a BMW, it's a whole different class...

I own both guns in 9 mm Luger (Glock 19 vs. USP Compact). I'll show you the groups i do with each one of them. USP is my choice on the field 100%.
  • comparing this to the glock 17 is absolute bullshit. you need to compare it to the glock 23 for weight, size, firepower.
  • @Fudoh1
The HK USP was the first production pistol with a rail on it, so you cant blame them for not using a "standart" rail, there was no standart at that time.

Don't quite understand the point to your video? You are comparing apples to oranges here. By your own admission you should be comparing it to other .40 caliber pistols. As far as the magazine release if you truly have shot thousands of rounds through this exact pistol you should be quite used to it by now. In regards to firepower again you are comparing a .40 round to a 9 mm. Two totally different rounds.

You trollin' fancy? That's what this review is, right? Ya, you're trollin!
  • I find it astonishing you have thousands of rounds through that gun without a scratch on it. Its amazing...
  • @Domenico099
At the beginning of the video you say you have thousands or rounds of trigger time through the HK then say at the end that it isn't yours???!! Anyone who puts in thousands of rounds through multiple guns will always go for the HK. It is like comparing a Hyundai to a BMW. That pistol didn't look like it had thousands of rounds through it either.

I cant ever get those ten minutes back, thats my big regret here.
  • only place I've ever disagreed with ya but that's okay still love the channel.

wait a minute,, you are comparing a .40cal usp compact hk to a 22 glock.  first of all, the comparison is glock 23 is the correct comparison to the usp compact hk.  the glock 23 is the compact.  to the weight.  it may weigh just a few more onces but its much more balanced than the glock.  if youre worried about weight?  try compare to your shooting between the RIGHT gun first of all.  Glocks are cheaper, but no comparison to the hk.  glocks are not balanced, you will shoot all over the the target.,  ive own the hk usp for 10 years, ive triggered over 15,k rounds through it.  and has never jammed.  its been inspected by hk, no issues.  ive replaced a few movement parts for safety on wear, but no issues.  bad comparison.  yes, you are comparing wrongfully.  its your opinion.  i have the glock 23 and the hk.  cant compare to each other. they both shoot nice, but the hk is much more accurate.

Most of my pistol trigger time is behind a H&K, and I have to say I actually prefer the mag release on them over that of a glock. With a glock I have to change my firing grip (tiny little boy hands) to reach even the extended slide release with my thumb, with the H&K however I can simply pull my finger off the trigger and drop the mag with my index finger. Probably because it's what I'm used to, but the USP feels much more ergonomic to me.

After all these reviews glorifying glock at a cheaper price over much pricier handguns. And after about a year and thousands of round through my glock 19 I still just don't like it. Shot a buddies H&K usp recently and after about one magazine I realized a glock is "functional" and a H&K was very refined kinda like driving a mustang or an aston martin e brake might be in a weird spot or your mag release seems weird at first but its a good weird a very good weird.

I love my HK, I considered buying a G19 but liked the way the HK felt. The ambi features on the HK are a big plus for me too (me being primarily left handed). The mag release did take some getting use to, but now I prefer it. The mag release was designed to prevent an accidental releasing under stress fire. IMO it has all the features of a point and shoot weapon like the Glock with some added features. Also the all the Glocks feel like I am holding a block and the grip angle is funny.
  • @TTT808killa
dam, i LOVE the magazine release on the h&k
  • Excellent Accuracy, Durability, and Reliability! That is all I ask for in a Handgun. The rest is minor. The rails on the HK USP line do suck. However H&K has corrected this with the HK45 and P30 which have standard 1913 Picatinny rails. I actually like the European mag release and longer slide stop lever. The USP grips feel just as comfortable or uncomfortable as Glock or FNP/X handguns. Am I wrong? I like Nutnfancy's reviews however I have to wonder why he doesn't do more reviews on H&K firearms. Especially the HK45 and HK P30. The HK45 is the next best .45 non-1911 handgun in my opinion.
