I am Japanese. This earthquake was very shocking. Foreign tourists in the disaster area, if you are in trouble, please talk to a Japanese person nearby. We will help you, even if there is a language barrier.

Japanese infrastructure is amazing, how their larger buildings and structures like the parking garage are built to sway and bear the quakes.

From the videos, it's amazing to see the structures staying upright. Japan's building codes and overall engineering is incredible. Still, this isn't a fun way to start the new year.

Hats off to those engineers who built those houses.

I was at the epicenter of the 7.8 earthquake in Turkey this year. It was a complete surrender to whatever would come next for us at 4 o'clock in the morning. We weren't sure if we could see the sunlight ever again. I trust Japanese infrastructure, scientists and building quality more than anything. They'll pass this in no time.

As someone that grew up in an earthquake zone, I would say that aftershocks are a lot more than unnerving. Aftershocks are terrifying, you’ve got to remember the PTSD that everyone is suffering from because of the initial earthquake. And then there’s the terror of trying to immediately gather everything that is important and flee unexpectedly. My 22 year old daughter still talks about the 6.8 we experienced when she was year old. Major earthquakes like that cause long lasting trauma, not a little anxiety. Just saying…….

I've been to Japan once and the Japanese are the most polite and considerate people. As an American, I love Japan more than America.

Historically Japan has been facing natural disasters for many years. That’s how Japanese culture has developed. Enemy was not people. They learned how to help each other.
