If God became human, taking to himself a human nature, then, when he asks the question, "who do they say I am, in the person of Jesus, he seems to be reflecting simultaneously on humans asking that same question of themselves, or of someone among themselves. Jesus comes to mind, at least in retrospect, for instance, as he did in 30 A.D... as having a bearing on the answer?
