Tips on the basic operation of your new GRBL Laser Engraver

Published 2020-06-28
Hopefully this video will help you get started with your new laser engraver.
caveats:
1. a 10 watt power supply IMHO is inadequate. upgrade to 20 or 30 watts.
2. resist the urge to fully tighten the carriage bearing wheels. leaving them loose will make it easier fo r your stepper motors to move the carriage. The looseness will not affect accuracy IMHO.
3. invest in Light Burn software. it is work the money
4. to turn on the laser for focusing enter the following into the Console: G1 F5 M03 S5
5. to turn the laser back off: M0

Thank you for making this video. I'm a noob to lasers. My first one gets here in a few days. I've watched a lot of beginner tutorials and yours is one of the best/simplified ones that I've seen. Well done...Also the "rest of your natural life" was funny.
  • You make my day that blue light was killing me I can’t troubleshoot what was happening I tried everything but I didn’t think in the power supply thank you so much

Heck! Your tutorial is way better than the frikkin Lightburn ones! Thanks!
  • If your new computer does not show an active USB Port, you need to install "CH340/341 driver for windows". just google it.

Thanks for this upload! I'm considering buying one of these off Amazon, but I plan to attach an ultrasonic spray nozzle to it. I don't need the laser feature really, but this seems like a nice affordable platform for my coating project. One question: I'm looking at what appears to be a very similar model. Amazon say it will move up to 2 inches per second. Obviously that would be too fast for these little lasers, but it would be about right for what I need. Does your unit seem capable of moving the target point that quickly?
  • I belive the sd card come with the kit and holds firmware software and drivers not an offline device
  • Will this one cut through the wood you did the test writing on?
