On this edition of the ArsenalVision Podcast, Tim is joined by Clive to discuss every aspect of the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal against Bayern. The pod starts with a bit on the pre match build up and atmosphere. Then there’s a bit on whether this was a mature European team against a less mature European team or just two good teams with control going back and forth? Then they cover the tactical approach of both teams, line up discussion and Kiwior sub. The Subs impact generally is discussed and getting back into the game. There’s a bit on the Saka penalty and a look ahead to second leg and what the line up might look like against Villa.. All that and more on this edition of the ArsenalVision Podcast.

  • Mistakes are what made this current team the beast it currently is. Losing top 4 made Arteta seek out more quality in depth. Losing title last year made Arteta seek out how to improve defense outside of depending on Saliba. So maybe 2 weeks is too short to learn lessons and improve, but i have no doubt whatever failures, i believe Arteta will bring in a solution for future campaigns.

Clive, exceptional analysis of the Bayern game! I want that football brain of yours preserved! Seriously, very instructive!
  • Clive is right, Saka reached too early for the Neuer leg and it didn't look right. Hate to say it but there is a skill to diving and some players are much better than others.

The first two signings we must make this summer is a technical midfielder who can play in that left 8 position (be able to dribble his way out) and a playmaking pacey technical winger (ideally one who can play on both flanks).

The no away goals rule actually works in our favor basically back to square one in a way ,
  • @FLASK904
Honestly it felt like a 2-0 win that we let slip. That first goal was so frustrating.
  • First half was like watching Arsenal in the CL under Wenger. We thought we could win the tie in the first leg and blitz them.

Zinchenko play in this team is the perfect example of what we gain from his profile of player. Perhaps when Timber comes back, he will be superfluous to requirements, but right now, his ability to force the opposition's midblock to have to really pick and chose who to shadow mark and who to press is so good. I really hope that Partey gets his legs soon, I think this game was the PERFECT Partey game. We missed his ability to find space and make a line breaking pass. It feels like Partey is also one of those players that grows into the game, and we need to keep giving him minutes to bring his fitness up. For the big games coming up, we are going to need him.

Could we not see zinny feature at left 8 with rice coming back to the 6 position ? Giving us that courage on the ball and forward thinking play, allowing rice to do more ricing ?? Ive always wanted to see what zinchenkonwould be like playing in that xhaka role
  • The point about Rice was spot on. What was arteta thinking playing him that high and wide??
  • @jamescurrie7678
To summarise this game from my perspective, we lacked experience and subsequently didn’t handle the occasion perfectly. We did however come out of this with a genuine second opportunity and if we learn quickly we will progress however if not we will be stronger and stronger in campaigns to come
  • @FreshSince92
I feel like we will be much better at The Allianz, the hostility will force us to focus on playing our game and really lock in. My scorching hot take 🤣 is maybe the atmosphere gee’d up the players a bit too much; if this was last season, I think it would have been an advantage but maybe it made the team think they had to do more than was necessary in those moments
  • I thought Tuchel did well to Neutralize Jorghino. He was ineffective for most of the game and I guess Partey cant play 60 minutes but if he can then we need him next week imo.
  • We were linked with Sane in Jan (probably just paper talk ) but so many fans said no thank you. I've always thought Sane is a beast and I'd love him at Arsenal. He has absolute top tier speed, he always takes his man on and he is a goal threat.

More Clive. Absolutely unique insights on Arsenal all the time. Typically presents a perspective that most other analysts aren't thinking of. Love it, Clive.
