Hidden 90,000 Acre Alabama Family Compound

I love a good adventure and I REALLY love getting lost in the woods. Some of my best adventure memories are pre cell phone times when I was lost on logging trails in bad weather with flooded roads or when I got lost in the southern California desert at night on a dirt bike. I have had more than my share of those experiences. If I had video footage from it I could start a pretty decent adventure channel.

I thought this trip might turn into one of those lost in the woods moments but once I found my way through this ninety thousand acre spread, there was only one way out. Getting in was a little challenging though. As you can imagine this is not an address that will pull up in Google maps. Once I was in, the first person I found was a gentleman in his late seventies who didn't roll out the red carpet for me. I introduced myself and explained who I was looking for only to get a mean look and long moment of silence while I assume he was contemplating whether or not to run me out of there. He then kind pointed up the road before driving off.

When I got to the place with the bee infestation I was welcomed warmly by a young man and his son who are recent additions to this community as handyman and caretaker. My customer and new beekeeping student arrived as I was completing the hive removal. She happily joined in on transferring bees to her new equipment. We spent a good bit of time talking winter strategy and what to expect come spring. I think she will make an incredible beekeeper.

Hi Randy, with it being 9 degrees outside at the moment and more snow arriving, I'm so glad this showed up in my feed :) 90,000 acres? That's a Texas-Scale property! 06:21 A memory for life. 14:57 Ah yes, digging through the hive history, honey bee archeology :) 17:51 The crash course in handling bees begins. You're a fantastic ambassador for bees and beekeeping. What a great start to my day, thanks Randy! Superb photojournalism at the end... as always! You could easily work as a stringer for any online news outlet.

To bad your dad was not with you on this one, he could have pointed out the queen right away. Don't worry, you will be able to identify a queen one day. Loved the pictures, and the music, at the end, you are almost as good of an artist as your wife. God's peace brother.

Randy, thanks for the great video and experience. I kept hoping you would show the woman how to scoop up a big handful of bees, but you are so patient. It's so kind of you to take the time to teach her. I love the beautiful photos and music at the end, too. So soothing. 🐝🐝🐝

Randy, Thank you for documenting these deep country gems. Sights fairly commonplace, but won't always be.

Great video! The photography always seems to take me back to a 70's kind of feel that some of my area used to have. Thanks for the video.

You have a real good eye for photography. And not so bad at the teaching side of bee keeping either!

I thought they liked it when you snapped that rubber band into a big cluster of bees. Especially when it's 70 degrees out. :)
