Nintendo out of nowhere dropped the news that an official Legend of Zelda movie is in production taking the form of live action and with the involvement of Sony and Avi Arad. Despite the sudden & light tweet & interview, this is a massive news drop that warrants a discussion, even from an absolute bare minimum example of a Zelda fan like me.

To be fair the Mario movie was announced the same way randomly 5 years ago

I don't like the idea of SONY being involved in the Live Action film, as well as the Director with a mixed history. Nintendo of Japan needs to know what they are doing and keep watch of this film.
  • The next question: will the live action Metroid movie will finally come to realization? The script was once made and was real back in the 2000s but it never went through nor the public ever saw it. Maybe Nintendo already preserved it when the timing was right for the franchise to grow. Now, for those who saying the Zelda irl movie wouldn’t do well are the same people said the same to Mario. I know the movie will succeed just as I was the only one back then saying Mario animation will be good.

personally I'm cautiously optimistic of how this will end up, I want this to be very engaging and fun as the games, but I also want more time to develop characters and world, because my biggest problem with the Mario movie aside from the weak story and writing was how fast paced it was, I remember needing to look away and take a breather at some point which was not good, and I feel like they need to do it here especially for Zelda since it has a lot of quiet and tense moments with the characters and dialogue. Also if I'm being honest I want them to make a new story with this movie rather than just adapt a specific game, I prefer when video game movies get to have an identity of their own, you can still have elements from other games (it would be cool if they could find ways to re-contextualize some stuff but I know most people aren't into that), plus it would give us a brand new experience rather than being something we've known for a while. I do wonder how they're gonna try to make Link stay silent (outside of the grunts and yells) but maybe through certain body language they can execute that pretty well, I really don't want them to have someone like Navi basically talk for them, I feel like the subtlety for Link would make him pretty good. Also "I think timestamps boost videos in the algorithm" LMAO nice, keep working my man

An interesting development imo. Everyone involved are very interesting choices. Avi Arad being involved, pretty much means it'll be a Columbia Pictures (a subsidiary of Sony Pictures) movie. He probably was a suggestion from Chris Meledandri for live action projects. Wes Ball's involvement as a Zelda fan and a vfx artist gives me hope for the visuals of the movie. Also Derek Connolly is in the same boat as Matt Fogel for Mario, just more experienced in Derek's case (note he only wrote the stories for JW Dominon and StarWarsXI). Would I had loved a Zelda animated movie? Hell yeah I would, but live action can give a bunch of artistry in the way things are shot, choreographed, and acted. So I'll judge accordingly when the first official pic comes out. Also also, I don't know who would I cast as our triforce, so I'm praying for that casting director every night, that they won't cause chaos.
  • ARMS will probably slap and its the same style as into the spiderverse. A untapped potential imo Also gives a bit more freedom that we could see from Nintendo. Imagine the insaine fighting scenes and the sheer depth of lore too.

I feel like one of the reasons why it's live action is so that it could reach a much wider audience. Sure it would be great animated (especially if Ghibli was the one to do it) but this can get many more people to discover the franchise through this method

initial wishlist / thoughts: - have Link played by an unknown or lower-profile actor. Probably Zelda too. Ganon can be anybody if they fit the role. They can go to hell if they pick Tom Holland - Original story with inspired elements of the games, instead of forcing a game-formatted story into a movie format - Do NOT constrain this film to 90 min by force like with the Mario movie. Let this one breathe more - Have some high level cinematic swordplay / combat choreography. Hire the best in the biz. Don't make it lame - PG-13, or HARD PG. But probably should just be PG-13 That's all I got for now. Feel like it's not coming out til like 2028 though
  • The fact that this was being planned the whole time explains why the mario movie didn’t have Zelda Easter eggs Does that imply that all of the Nintendo ip that were referenced are gonna be stuck with universal and the ones that weren’t acknowledged are free agents?
  • @JustJDude
Ok, hear me out guys: 2D animated Studio Ghibli Kirby movie
  • @ruthylopez1575
It would be dope if they made it a flim series like Harry Potter or Lord of Rings. Zelda could be made so epic! The more i think of it the more i think its a great idea.
  • It’s live action because it’s gonna be a more mature movie that’s the speculation Also I trust Nintendo Miyamoto has been working on this movie since 2013 that’s longer than even the mario movie tells you all you need to know at how dedicated miyamoto is to this They picked the people they picked because they want people that can be controlled Wes ball seems like a Zelda fan tho in 2010 he said he wants to do a Zelda movie in the style of James Cameron’s avatar Austin butler as link Florence Pugh as Zelda Taylor swift as Zelda too but that’s my joke pick although I see the vision As for the speaking situation Make link canonically deaf and have him communicate using ASL throughout the movie Problem solved It’ll be an original story that’s an amalgamation of every game like the mario movie did Most likely Nintendo for their ip seem to be follow the stigma that animation is for all ages and live action is more mature Either that or they are just doing what they want for each project Austin butler for older link Walker scobel for younger link Florence Pugh for older Zelda McKenna grace for younger Zelda Henry cavil or Simu liu for ganondorf Akwafina as Navi Y’all love to cherry-pick and use avi as a scapegoat as if there aren’t other people working on those movies that have more creative control than him because that would have been too safe which was a common criticism of the mario movie that it was safe Nintendo loves to take risks and experiment with different styles Why is this any different TRUST NINTENDO the phases of production, an average Hollywood studio movie from beginning of development to the end of post-production typically takes around 4 to 5 years Keep in mind in 2010 Wes ball tweeted he wants the next movie that’s like James Cameron’s avatar to be Zelda We don’t know whether or not his vision has changed since then tho DEREK DID NOT WRITE THE FINAL MOVIE FOR RISE OF SKYWALKER YES HE WROTE A SCRIPT BUT THATS NOT THE SCRIPT THEY USED Detective Pikachu is a masterpiece and clearly having had experience working with a Nintendo ip miyamoto felt comfortable with Derek animation is too safe people wanted Nintendo to take bigger risks that was a criticism of the mario movie that it was too safe I applaud them for taking risks and experimenting with different styles for each ip
  • I looked up how long a movie in development takes from the beginning to end of post production it said 5 to 6 years every movie is different but miyamoto is a perfectionist tho so who knows
  • 18:15 the pop culture music is for the non fans that Nintendo is appealing to And miyamoto said he didn’t mind them Also they aren’t really a thing in more serious movies It’s not really the same situation I thought they were cute personally
  • @coltonk.3086
As much as I hate it, I can TOLERATE Mario having some 80's pop music. If they put it in Zelda, I will freaking riot. NO.
  • Logistically it was their investors day so they announced it more for them then us
  • @coltonk.3086
Love your videos bro! Keep up the Zelda stuff! I really want your input on, well, anything really!!
