John Candy unquestionably made my childhood better. What a gift he gave us. Rest In Peace.
  • He was the definition of warm , friendly and that ''safe home feeling''.

John Candy and Robin Williams are the only two celebrities that made me cry when they died. You felt like you knew John without ever meeting him.
  • Nobody made me laugh like John Candy made me laugh, and he did it without being vulgar or offensive.

The final shot in Planes, Trains, And Automobiles still makes me tear up every time. His passing makes it hit so much harder.
  • A truly great man. I remember Billy Crystal telling the story at his funeral about how Billy fell and broke his leg, and without a second thought, John picked him up and carried him all the way to the hospital. That's the mark of a true friend.

It's a real shame he's no longer with us the world could really use someone like John Candy again.

I met John Candy once when I was at the airport. We had both boarded a plane in Chicago. I was coming back from Hawaii and Candy from Mexico where he had been filming and we met at the luggage carousel in Toronto and talked while we waited for our bags. He was open and friendly and gracious. R.I.P. gentle man.
  • A true Canadian treasure. My late husband had the honour of working with him, Eugene Levy, Joe Flaherty, Catherine O'Hara, Dave Thomas and Martin Short when they were doing SCTV in Toronto. He had only praise for all of them. He said they were all "real" people, incredibly funny and kind. However, he had a special place in his heart for John Candy. Gone - but will never be forgotten.

One of the most underrated of all time. This generation probably has no idea who he is and it’s sad.

We can only aspire to leave behind as lasting, as positive of a legacy as John Candy has. A man who is remembered for making others laugh, and who represented the best qualities in all of us. RIP

My dad was a carbon copy of John Candy, he was a bit big, funny, and cared about everyone else more than himself. We watched Planes, Trains and Automobiles every thanksgiving. He died suddenly just like John did. Now I can't watch the movie without tearing up.

That last image in "Uncle Buck" where he holds up his hand to say goodbye. I remember seeing that in the movie theater. The whole movie he was Uncle Buck. But to me. In that last image. That was John Candy. I miss him.

The guy was a loveable, witty teddy bear. Sharp as a tack, but never obscene or offensive. Definitely my favorite comedian from Canada.
