  • 1. Foxtrot "Who the hell ranks Foxtrot so low?!" 2. Selling England by the Pound 3. Trespass 4. Nursery Cryme 5. From Genesis to Revelation "Yeah I Actually like this album." 6. The Lamb lies down on Broadway 7. A trick of the tail 8. Wind & Wuthering 9. Duke 10. And then there were Three ...... The Rest the answer is............. both Gabriel and Collins together, Not Collins by himself.

Everybody's taste is different, no problem with that. But saying that "Trespass is not that different from the debut album" is the single most incredible comment I have ever heard about the band! The debut album is a throwaway pop album created by 18 year old school boys trying to please their producer and get a hit single. Trespass is a full on prog album, the first in a long line of great albums. The change between these 2 albums dwarfs that between any other pair of consecutive albums by the band in my opinion.
  • Guys I think you're underestimating the proggy elements of Tonight Tonight Tonight from Invisible Touch. Check out the live 1986 version at Wembley Stadium.
  • @tomthorsett1433
Selling England by the Pound, Foxtrot, and Lamb Lies Down on Broadway are the top 3.

I'm really happy that you guys have taken on the Genesis catalogue. I'll get back to you on this after I watch the clip. I've been a prog fan since 1975. Obviously, Genesis are a big part of the pantheon. Cheers!
  • I always like that you guys have your own lists, whether they Line up with popular opinion or not....my lists are usually off the beaten path as well
  • I recently did a listen chronologically and tried to do this exercise. New respect for what you have to go though. Anyway will list my choices not that anyone cares to see who I am closest to. Keep up the great work guys.

Yours is the very first YouTube Genesis Review video I have seen that has not included all of the big three in the top five. The 'big three' being 'Foxtrot', 'Selling England' and 'The Lamb'. Usually these three albums are all in the top five with the addition of 'Trick' and 'Nursery Cryme'. Your choices make for intriguing and novel viewing. Jason did have 'The Lamb' at number 2 and you both had 'Selling England' in there though. It's most interesting to see an unconventional take on the Genesis catalog especially from younger people. You have drawn from both eras of Genesis equally which is commendable. Well done for giving a different perspective. Cheers.

Another entertaining 35 minutes. Thank you! Keep up the good work! No doubt as to where my loyalties lie, in terms of "era": 1) Selling England By the Pound 2) Nursery Cryme 3) Foxtrot 4) Lamb 5) Trick Of The Tail Having said all that Phil Collins remains on my Mount Rushmore of drummers along with Bonzo, Peart and Barrie Barlow of Jethro Tull. His jazz influences show up noticeably within his snare work...and his ability to free lance INSIDE of excruciating time signatures is epic. Cheers!

ā€˜Selling England by the Poundā€™ is their singularly greatest work with ā€˜Dukeā€™ coming in a close second for me

Finally, The Lamb ranks as a #2 pick- Thanks Jason. This has always been my favorite and feel it's extremely underrated. Perhaps like Zep's Physical Graffiti, there's simply twice the music to enjoy. Tony Banks is the star of this show- his use of the Mellotron and ARP synth are brilliant. Riding The Scree and The Colony Of Slippermen are stand out tracks. Possibly Peter's best vocal performance as well- The Chamber Of 32 Doors is amazing.
  • 1st time i've ever seen Abacab 1st on any list. i like Abacab . I find the Genesis fanmanship impressive. Been digging in to Duke, A Trick of Tail. So much Genesis to enjoy. Their current Domino tour seems impressive. Great sound, lights. From mtw and 99 in LA. Jam night musicians 2013-2019. Enjoying a Genesis deep dive.
  • I really like how you appraise each album on its own merit instead of having bias or preconceived notions of them based on which era they're from or who was the singer. I'm a fan since '79 but like all the albums for differing reasons, some a LOT more than others. What I can't stand are the snobs who will cut Genesis off right from the moment Hackett left in '77. Post Hackett Genesis still had a lot of prog in it. Consider Duke's Travels or Home By The Sea. You mean to tell me those aren't proggier than Seven Stones, Your Own Special Way or Carpet Crawlers?!! Ah, but because they're on an 80s Genesis album they must be crap? Thanks for your honest and unbiased views lads. Enjoyed that.
  • I know itā€™s a preference list but I AM SHOCKED at the ranking. One of their best albums so low (Foxtrot) and one of the worst (Abacab) no. 1 is incredible. I guess thatā€™s what makes everyone different. Just glad to see my favorite band get love for their body of work.
