St. Pierre & Miquelon- Part 1 How I DROVE from MAINE to FRANCE!

Published 2024-02-02
Bastielles Day is July 14th. The food and dancing happens in the town square, only on that day.
If you need lots of entertainment and group activities, this trip my not be for you. I had perfect weather the whole time, which is unusual unusual for S&P. if it had rained every day, the trip might not have seemed as magical as itt did for me. And there aren't many indoor "tourist" type activities in Newfoundland or S&P.

But for my travel tastes it was perfect. Just seeing what the heck life is like for people living there.

When I discovered that there was a small French island territory called St. Pierre & Miquelon up off the coast Newfoundland, Canada, I was instantly intrigued!

I looked carefully at a map of North America, and it looked like I could conceivably drive my old Honda pickup truck there, with the help of a ferry or two.

Here are some things to know.

* You need to reserve ferry space for a vehicle at least 24 hours ahead. And there is generally only 1 ferry per day.

* The Sidney ferry costs around $50 Canadian, per person, and $175 per small vehicle. A private cabin is around $175 additional.

* The St. Pierre ferries dont have cabins. its just an hour and a hal trip.
* Vehicle space on these ferries are very limited. There are only a few cars on St. Pierre. Depending on your circumstances you really dont need it. There are a couple of taxis.

Did you have to get supplemental insurance for the car to be able to drive it there?
