Correction: The two wives of Henry VIII that were executed at the Tower were Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard - this grave error somehow got missed and I apologise. I really should know better!
  • "As he was murdered by his own body - he died of old age" 😂😂😂😂😂😂 whoever writes the scripts must get an award for the randomest comedy because 😂😂😂

If I remember correctly, King Richard charged Prince John with causing a foul stench in the monarchy. For that reason, he decreed that all the toilets in the kingdom were to called johns. He then imprisoned Prince John in the Tower of London and made him part of the tour. Right after that he knighted Robin of Locksley and kissed Maid Marian before allowing them to get married. It’s good to be the king.

As far as i know the menagerie now consists of only ravens. They are not kept in cages though, but are being fed regularly. There is a legend even, which says that as long as ravens stay in the Tower of London it will be safe.

I was lucky enough to be a student ambassador to the UK and Ireland. Happened 25 yeas ago and I always look back on that trip fondly. I still order a full English breakfast when I can find it. Y'all got that nailed down perfectly.
  • “That moment when someone gifts you with apex predators and you just don’t have anywhere to put them”. Damn. I wish people would stop doing this!

I am genuinely surprised there was not a mention made of the Tower ravens!

In noticed at 4:22 you said referred to Lady Jane Grey as one of Henry VIII’s wives although. Lady Jane Grey is actually most famous for having the worst royal signature of any British monarch (other than Henry VII of course) you may also know her for having the shortest reign of any female British monarch lasting an astonishing nine days before falling victim to the ever pressing “involuntary neck removal surgery”. Just thought I would mention as I found it a bit odd. 😊

I'd forgotten that there used to be a menagerie at the Tower of London - very interesting and entertaining video! I appreciated the references to Monty Python (It's only a flesh wound!) and Star Trek - 😂. I gotta say, I still do a bit of a double-take when I hear someone refer to the king; I unconsciously still expect to hear "queen ".
  • 07:28 ...higher mortality rate than a redshirt in Star Trek. Love this. 😄 However, Scotty was also a redshirt in TOS but he wore plot armour.

"We no longer serve elephants buckets of merlot" You haven't seen my useless neighbours wife at Christmas then...

The lions thing was pretty prevalent in Europe, they were considered symbols of royalty and strength. I remember reading when Mary Queen of Scots moved into Holyrood Palace, there was an empty lion pen. She thought keeping them was cruel and costly and opted not to get one until her husband Lord Darnley insisted on it as a show of royal power over the Scottish people.
