Hurricane Beryl continues to move toward Jamaica as a "dangerous" Category 4 storm and its core is anticipated to impact the island by midday Wednesday.

The National Hurricane Center says the storm remains a threat although it is forecast to weaken "during the next day or two."

As of the latest advisory, NHC forecasters say, "Beryl is forecast to be at or near major hurricane intensity while it passes near Jamaica on Wednesday and the Cayman Islands on Wednesday night."

It's the first named hurricane of the season and the earliest a Category 4 storm has ever formed in the Atlantic. The previous record for the earliest Category 4 hurricane was Hurricane Dennis on July 8, 2005.

Hurricane Beryl is about 185 miles east-southeast of Kingston, Jamaica, according to the latest advisory. Forecasters say the hurricane is moving at 20 mph with maximum sustained winds of 145 mph.

Jamaica isn't "out of the woods" yet. The right front quarter of a hurricane contains the strongest winds & will push huge amounts of water ashore as it passes just south of the island. The south shore is where much of the native population lives. Be ready & stay strong.
  • I could be wrong, but didn't Hurricane season start at the end of July? I know Hurricanes can pop up at any part of the year, but damn this isn't looking good for the rest of the year.
