After watching this, I can now confirm that I am screwed.

I thought watching this might comfort me.... nope
  • @MinDetonator96
Perfect SAT, valedictorian, engineering background, perfect AP scores, Eagle Scout, varsity athlete, and plays the cello...

As someone who got into Columbia this year (and was identified as one of their most promising students interested in the arts and humanities), I'm gonna tell you that it's possible to get in AND be one of the best students in your department without doing nearly all of what this guy did!! Ivy League schools still accept people who are passionate, good at what they do, ambitious, and hardworking and people who aren't legacies whose families have donated to the school. Don't be discouraged!! I feel awful hearing that people feel like failures for not having done all of the things mentioned in this video. You don't have to!!! I definitely didn't, and I'm so glad!! I have great friends that I see all the time, I'm happy, I get to do the things I love like theatre and painting (which is also something colleges want to see), and I still got into Ivy League schools.

"somehow I ended up with all 5's on my ap tests" oh ya me too.. totally
  • @sienna5590
Columbia doesn’t only accept perfect kids like this! I just got accepted for undergraduate and my 5 ap scores range from 3s to 5s, I’ve quit almost every varsity sport I tried, and have definitely not founded or even led any clubs! Never be too intimidated to apply; us “average” kids have a chance too :)

“Studying a couple of hours was usually sufficient”

I got a 1 on the Ap English Update: finished up high school GPA: 4.0 SAT: 1280 (pretty low) AP exams: They were pretty low, highest was a 3 on AP History. Note: I'm trash at test testing Activities: Varsity volleyball, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, bowling, swimming and hockey. I did boy scout but only got up to life scout and I also did JROTC. Life right now: studying computer science at a average university. The reason for the updated comment is to motivate and help you achieve your goals in life.

I really wish I was as intelligent as him. I've been practicing a lot but I'm no where close to a perfect SAT score holy crap. He's worked so hard he definitely deserves it! Wish him the best with his endeavors. I would love if he could share his studying habits/tips with us especially for the AP tests because I think that would be so helpful. Thank you!

Y’all he went to public school too. Stop complaining that he’s too perfect or something like he made the best out of his options and worked hard to get into Columbia. Average people won’t be on this page because average people don’t typically get into Ivy League schools—it’s the people that take initiative and work hard that get into them

I got into graduate school at Columbia without doing any of this. You can get to the same end through different means. Stay true to yourself.
  • @javamochafrap
Not your average kid. Maybe put average kids that somehow got in.
  • @krise227
I wish you the best at Columbia

I'm glad I found this channel. It has inspired me so much

The little note about his blog was really helpful, I've been trying to try some projects of my own for a long time now but haven't thought of a solid foundation for anything until now. Great place to log your progress, goals and findings.
