Guys are so bad at picking up hints, they over correct and end up looking for hints where they aren’t, I’m staying safe by remaining dense and never assuming.

The "guys are dense" thing comes from two things 1) Girls flirt differently. Some are extremely subtle, like a look or a smile can mean they like you. Some girls are very huggy and touchy, but they're just being friendly. 2) Men are worried about being publicly shamed for "being a creep" if they misinterpret something as flirtatious. Edit: Men are starved for kindness. Kind sweet girls are valued so much more. If you're young and stupid, sure you might just try to date a girl because she's hot, but most men take what they can get and hope she's nice. Edit 2: I've never received a compliment from another man that was "just being nice". Compliments suck if they're not completely sincere. Too many girls trying to be "nice" while turning me down. Just tell me 'no' and let's move on.

For me, it's not that I don't get hints. It's more I get so caught up on "does she? Does she not? She doesn't, she's probably just being nice" because I don't want to assume somebody likes me and get my hopes up when they don't.
