Rest in Paradise sir. Your music made planet earth a better place.

I'm old, so I remember both of these guys in their "prime". And now? These are actual Jedi Knights, no question.

To everyone...you don't need to know what he's saying. This man is clearly showing that the voice is an instrument first and foremost and that it can be transformed into anything you want. He's immitating basslines masterfully, singing in violin ranges, creating natural effects that give off an ethereal vibe, all while chanting. Normally people need a whole ensemble to do half the things he's doing. Chick Corea is already a freak of nature but, Bobby McFerrin is also a legend. Don't try and label his talent or try to approach it like some science project. Don't call it 'noise'. Just appreciate great music.

Just hearing of Chick Coreas passing. This is one of the finest examples of a man truly joyful in his art, and of course Bobby is supremely talented as well.

Damn it! Rip Chick! You will be sorely missed by so many people around the world 😭
  • Look at Chick smile and look at McFerrin knowing he is one of the best rhythm sections he has ever played with.

Also it was awesome what Bobby Mcferrin did with the microphone in the beginning. I've never seen that technique before.
  • 5:25-5:40 ... what in the world ... you can even see it on Chick's face afterward when he turns to Bobby... "Did you hear that?!" ... The beauty of jazz, the improviser can never truly be ready for the wonders that await in each adventure...no matter how masterful they are or how many times they've played a piece.

Their first album together, “Play,” is one of the finest examples of improvisation ever. No rehearsals, no plans, just two world class musicians on stage, listening, and “playing” together. It is a work of real genius.
  • Back when I first moved to LA I used to work for Chick and Gayle Corea at their home in Hollywood. I was their Estate manager. I ran the house and grounds for them. At that time I had a backstage pass to any show he played anywhere. I utilized this when ever I could! An an amazing performer and an sweet guy. I did catch a show of Bobby and him at a small theater in Hollywood. What a show. Most of the audience were singers and gladly sang along when Bobby asked. I'd never been in an audience of that many great singers! They all sang on key and followed Bobby's directions like they were in his chorus. A sweet memory I'll never forget
  • Chick, was my dad's best friend in high school. In Chelsea Massachusetts, he was an amazing person besides being a super Talent, the world will mourn and miss him. Love to you and the family. Mike H

'Loved Bobby singing unisons with Chick on the melody head of this tune. Bobby's bass lines and rhythmic beating were also great...no need for a bassist and drummer....and Chick played crisp pianissimo to match Bobby's volume level.  One of the most organic and fun versions I've heard of this great tune !

This is a gem - one of the greatest jazz collaborations of all time. Al Jarreau, Urzula Dudziak as a great exponent of "this type of jazz singing"? This is like comparing Kenny G to Wayne Shorter or Steven Seagal to Laurence Olivier, or Al Jarreau to Bobby McFerrin. I watched him live at UCLA Royce Hall with just a microphone and a bottle of water. Mr. McFerrin is a finely tuned musical instrument and Chick Corea is no less amazing.

First time hearing this version. Didn't realize Bobby Mcferrin was this good.
  • @SofiaCamussi
The way Bobby grabs the mic! He's literally PLAYING it. Ha! Amazing performer! Both of them!
  • @michsub
This should be sent into space! An achievement to be proud of, as humanity.

First time I ever heard a version of this number that I liked even better than the original Seventies recording. Going so stripped down really allowed Corea to pull out all these different expressions his fertile mind could pull from the melody and structure. Most especially, I love the absolute restraint he used. Fewer notes, more music. And he hardly repeated anything! He kept showing different ways to speak the music. Just amazing, amazing, amazing and utterly joyful to listen to. And, oh, Mr. McFerrin wasn't half bad either.
  • 6:49 my favorite part onwards. I really liked how he managed to make it sound like he was singing in portuguese..very nice
