  • The scene with the bear was absolutely genius. Easily one of the most terrifying things I’ve watched in a movie in a loooooooooong time.
  • @jtg51221
In the book, there is a creature in the reeds that the bear idea was probably inspired by. Also there is vegetation in human form in the book...
  • “I also saw a few peculiar eruptions of moss or lichen, rising four, five, feet tall, misshapen, the vegetative matter forming approximation of limbs and heads and torsos” -Annihilation, p. 96.
  • I just read the book, it’s really weird that you would specifically point out the bushes manifesting to look like humans as something that’s not in the book when they are, in fact one of the only direct visualizations shared by both.
  • @Perthorn
I think the bear wasn't absent in the book - there was this strong haunting voice every night to be heared from the woods. Also I'm pretty sure that the people turned into plants were there too. The book even described this family of plants in one of the houses in the village. right?
  • I read the book and I loved it. I was so excited for the movie and then I freaked out when I found out that it was totally different from the book. But then I just got my shit together and watched it and I can tell you that I loved it It's a different, amazing entity. I loved both the book and the film.
  • My biggest complaint about the movie was how much they dumbed down the biologist as a character. She was so much more interested as a strange introvert with a compulsive scientific mind. Reducing her motivations to guilt over cheating on her husband felt really cheap to me.

I think one of the major powers of the book is that you can visualise everything by yourself. The movie is very good, but the book is a masterpiece. There are some really great plot details entirely missing in the movie. Anyone who loved this movie should really read the book.
  • #8 Ghostbird error: "At some point during our relationship, my husband began to call me the ghost bird..." #7 @3:10 Humanlike shrubs error: "The deserted village had so sunk into the natural landscape of the coast that I did not see it until I was upon it. ... I also saw a few peculiar eruptions of moss or lichen, rising four, five, feet tall, misshapen, the vegetative matter forming an approximation of limbs and heads and torsos. As if there had been runoff from the material, too heavy for gravity, that had congregated at the foot of these objects. Or perhaps I imagined this effect. One particular tableau struck me in an almost emotional way. Four such eruptions, one “standing” and three decomposed to the point of “sitting” in what once must have been a living room with a coffee table and a couch—all facing some point at the far end of the room where lay only the crumbling soft brick remains of a fireplace and chimney. The smell of lime and mint unexpectedly arose, cutting through the must, the loam."
  • As someone that has seen way to many sci fi and horror movies, I've gotten pretty numb and bored with the constent tropes films now keep using, like jumpscares. When I went to see this movie l kept saying "oh here we go... Something is going to pop out." but no. The film actually threw curve balls and had me unable to guess what exactly happens next. Is it going to win any Oscars? Probably not. But it is definitely a film worth checking out. It does not rely on huge action scenes or jumpscares. The action, and even the music, is always slow and quiet. Which keeps the eerie and rather spooky tone of the movie. I recommend checking this film out for sure.
  • @Kdot519
That movie was so good, from the visuals to the sound design, it was both beautiful and terrifying
  • Lena's affair happened before Kane left, actually, and mutated plants do appear in the book.
  • @Sladepool
I really want to see that “Crawler” creature now. Sounds very creepy and I think would add even more ambiance
  • That bear scene was so disturbing i actually had nightmares the night after watching it. I haven’t seen something that scary in a movie to cause actual nightmares in a while.
  • Without prior knowledge of the books, this movie is amazing
  • The movie is absolutely mind-blowing but of course is already penty of haters saying how bad it is, happened the same with Dunkirk, Arrival, Shape of the water, etc internet is full of idiots that can't recognize a good movie
  • the affair happened before her husband went into the Shimmer, that was one of his main reasons for going...
  • Watched this masterpiece at night, needless to say "screambear" gave me nightmares! Lulz
