So...do we need stackable clues in Old School?
  • @Hananniee
Sorry, catch me up, what's a clue again

stackable clue scrolls basically exist because of imps, item values are tanked already, they arnt a distraction or diversion because everyone uses plugins anyway turning them into "click blue->teleport->dig" and people who already enjoy doing cluescrolls as they get them would keep doing them, and people who bank and forget their clue scrolls for months would continue to do. all they would do is remove incentive for bots to infest puro puro so really theres no downside anymore

Rs3 has a clue scroll bag which can hold 25 of each kind of clue, as long as it hasn't been started. Solves your 'infinite clue scroll bad' problem, and it keeps the requirement of doing only 1 at a time. Allows you to do a couple slayer tasks between relatively short clue scroll sessions. It maintains the distraction and diversion feel, but doesn't ruin slayer tasks or boss camping.

Honestly I'd love stackable clues, the only time I've actually done clues is in leagues. I HATE the whole "distraction" argument, like 90% of players I have a full time job, when I get on to play it's normally only for an hour or two in the evening and a couple hours on the weekend. Almost every time I sit down I have a plan of how I want to spend that time and the clues feel like a chore that are getting in the way of the goal I'm trying to achieve. In leagues though, I found myself stacking them in the bank and then I could get on and say "Okay, I'm doing to do medium clues tonight" and I actually do the clues. Right now, I have one of every clue in the bank simply so they don't pop up when I'm trying to do stuff. I know Hannanie was here for comedic relief but I honestly think her opinion on this echo'd mine (and I'm assuming the majority or players) opinion on the clues - Just a casuals opinion.

Turning watsons house into the clue scroll guild is a top tier idea. Some thoughts on things you could unlock via clue completions: - ability to hold/stack multiple clues of same difficulty which would be unlocked In tiers (I.e. tier 1: 2 clues, tier 2: 3 clues, tier 3: 5 clues, tier 4: 10 clues, etc) - “step skipper”: rare consumable item that allows you to skip an entire step (only 1 may be used per treasure trail) - grand master clue: hardest treasure trail in the game (think master clue but just harder and more steps) BUT the reward is the best chance in-game for getting something off the mega rare drop table (nowhere near guaranteed, but much better chance compared to any other clue type, or killing mimic). It doesn’t necessarily need its own set of rewards, those can just be master clue rewards or something. Only able to be completed by folks closing in on max capes with high pvm skill (might need to show falo a holy scythe, or kill zuk, or do the agility skillcape emote, etc)

the thing is, people always complain about the price of clue items tanking if there were stackable, but the thing is, most people love to stack hundreds/thousands of a type of clue anyways before opening them all at once. so many creators do clue opening videos. making them stackable doesnt affect anything but the convenience of not having to stop right then and there for efficiency. people will still juggle to avoid steps they cant/dont want to do, ie, chunk accounts/low-mid level IM, etc

I want Watson to be similar to slayer masters where you can use points to skip or reroll clue parts. I also want to use those said points to block certain areas like wilderness areas for 750 Points for example.

Since they changed the clue despawn timer to 1hr, i'm really happy. When i get one, i just tp to the GE, drop it there, continue my task and drop further clues there aswell. Then when i'm done with the task i go do all clues. Few days ago i had 4 hards from 1 hellhound task. Now i actively do them after my task where before the update (and before the notification that you would have received a clue) i didn't do them or just kept it on me. I think it's good like it is now but i'd be open to stackable

Just make stackable Master Clues from opening caskets only. Other clues are still as scrolls. It would make mass openings so much more enjoyable.

On the Sailing Skill Discord, there was a suggestion about having the cosmetics (The trim, gold, 3rd age etc) be used on your crewmates. This allows more personal customization to your ship. What was highlighted is that this would bring a demand on clue-scrolls only items. How the devs deal with it (use it on the crew and the item is gone or get the item back if you swap). This is a great approach to keeping these clues only items afloat. Players want sets, multiple sets, and how creative they want their crew members to be such as a ranking-system, position system, a theme, show of wealth (or lack there of). The need for clue hunters / to do clues would be in constant demand. The current method in the game is hard to balanced. I think the glory ring idea was in a good direction. I think the ring of wealth should use charges to "roll" up clue scrolls that haven't been looked at. It has a nice balance of having to use an item to benefit the player with some restrictions. The upgraded glory ring has the unlimited teleport charges but should have increased clue charges (not unlimited, just increased).

I mean this hour despawn has been very helpful. But its been a pretty hectic couple of week where I have about 10-15 on the ground each day and I have to stop whatever Im doing to finish them because theyre getting out of hand. If I had 25-50 in a stack I could choose a saturday morning or something to do them all at once and it would be way more convenient

i feel like u can only make clues stackable if there’s a hard limit (which if greater than 2 you would need to progressively unlock) and that limit would definitely have to be below 10. doing that gets rid of a lot of the cons. like idk if you’ve done varlamore pickpocketing but u just can’t do every clue you get if you want to progress your account. even stacking up to 5 would make it 10x less painful / waste a lot less time. and it’d still be a distraction/diversion

Clue Barrel: you can chuck unwanted clues in the clue barrel and after you put enough in you get a lucky dip. 1 roll on one of the clues drop tables. The more clues you put in you move up a drop table. 😊

leave stackable clues for rs3. The 1 hour timer is a huge update and changes the need to do a clue immediately. To me, that is osrs's equivalent of rs3 having stackable clues

One thing I didn't see mention and something I really love about clues is how you have that perfect chance to obtain THE JACKPOT. Items like 3rd age pickaxe which go for over 10B gp on the market right now is something every player can look forward to and personally it brings me back to the OG days 17 years ago where you had few of the giga rare items that everyone dreamed about like partyhats. Currently this is our version of that, imagine being that player who hits the jackpot and suddenly your bank value just went up by billions of gp because you spent 45 minutes completing this master clue, the dopamine rush would be out of this world. With stackable clues this rush would dissappear pretty fast as prices would almost certainly plummit. Currently the prices of mega rare items are held up by the players because they think 3rd age items have this value. Bringing in stackable clues would almost certainly make players think the 3rd age items don't have that value anymore. We've already seen that with RS3 where the clue rewards had almost no value at one point and Jagex had to put arbitary solutions to trimmed items just to retain the prices. Also as someone who has played 4 different leagues now and experienced first hand the stackable clue option, the story always ended the same way for me. I stack up like 100 clues and then I feel too overwhelmed to complete them and the clues just kept stacking up and I ended every league with 100s of clues just staying in my bank until the servers closed. When I have 1 clue in the bank, it's much more likely I'm gonna complete that 1 clue at some point during the week. Also I don't see how stacking 3-5 clues would really change anything for the better. People who enjoy doing clues would've completed them anyways and having 3 clues in your bank instead of 1 isn't a massive incentive for someone who wasn't ever planning to do clues. They just now think it's 3x the burden instead of the 1 stack. EDIT: Also Bloodhound is one of the coolest/rarest pets in the game right now and I think it deserves to stay that way.

As a big cluescroller on rs3 some years in the past, I have to say that stackable clues was one of the best things that ever happened to clues on that game (as well as rewards like Dyes and Invention making regular clue uniques worth something). They turned clues away from that D&D style, and turned them into a full-blown active playstyle. Maybe they weren't originally designed to be like that, but it's an irrefutable fact that it massively improved things for people that were/are passionate about clues, and it honestly didn't really affect people that don't want to do clues (Looking at you, Hannanie). tldr; I would absolutely LOVE stackable clues. ESPECIALLY masters, so we can have actual big casket openings in a reasonable timeframe. A cap on the amount of clues helps solve a lot of the potential problems discussed in the video, I'd argue RS3 nailed it with the initial 25. Implings (and impling bots) in the bin!

Loved that you got Hananniee and posioned potion on this. 💚 The other two are new to me , but I'll check em out now because you brought them around.

Make them stackable already. With them lasting for 1h when dropped, there is literally no difference when you can TP to a bank, drop them and wait with solving them untill you're finished. I "stack" all clues I receive while AFK mining during workhours so I can do a clue session when my working day is done. And honestly, with how easy clue juggling is these days I can't see why it still needs to be a thing. My suggestions on how to make clues stackable: 1) I'd add a seperate progession system to it besides CA/achievement diary. Something specific to clues (like you mentioned with Watson). Make it so that you can rank up and unlock the ability to stack clues, up to 5 for each type. That way you avoid people getting burned out by seeing 100+ scrolls in their bank before even starting. 2) Add a craftable item that allows you to create containers. Add them to whatever skill(s) you want so it adds additional methods to train certain skills. This will allow you to stack clues despite your game status (main account, IM, UIM,...) and add some extra flavor to different skills. Hell, they can even add it to sailing if they want 3) Add another money sink to the game: Make it so Watson sells untradable containers for clues. Each tier of clue has a seperate container that can be bought with cash. Whenever a clue drops you get the option to store it in the container, being consumed from your bank. This allows the option to interrupt whatever you're doing to finish the clue (like it is currently), or spend some GP to stack the clues to do them later in bulk. This could drive the price of uniques up, can serve as an additional money sink without forcing you to do the clues if you're a greedy c**t (like me) or want to do the clues as they drop
