This architecture is the soul of America firing on all cylinders. Reject minimalist modernity, embrace exceptional maximalism.

As a native Detroiter, all of the buildings you showed are masterpieces. The Fisher Building alone is a stunner. So is the Fox Theatre. Cadillac Place was the former GM headquarters until GM moved to the RenCen.
  • Its gorgeous, if you decide to make this a series I HIGHLY recommend you include Buffalo, NY as an entry. The architectural variety and history here is stunning.

The gothic style of the Guardian Building is immaculate. I wish they still built buildings like that. It makes you feel a part of an inheritance—empowered do something that will last beyond the day-to-day.
  • Thank you for this as a metro Detroiter and long time follower! We need more positive videos! We’re really coming back strong!

IMO as real estate and rent most big cities has gotten outrageously expensive it opens up a window for Detroit to make a comeback as Gen Z looks for cool and affordable places to live. It has happened a bit with gentrification downtown, however the massive amount of blight all over the city is holding them back. I know the government offers incentives for developers to remove blight, if they could just get that under control the city would boom.

Good video! All these buildings will still be standing 50 years from now they were built to last.

Beautiful old school great looks. Old Town with old pretty buildings
  • Detroit is a beautiful city once you peel the layers of stereotypes and derelict off. A bit like an old English city or Dunedin in NZ. Loved this bro

There is an Andiamos restaurant on ground floor of the Renaissance building. Best steak I've ever had.

My Grandmother (born in 1919) told me about the weekend trips that her and my Grandpa would take to Detroit back in the late 1940s. Right after WW2, the height of Detroit's prosperity. It's hardly believable that it's even the same city today.

This makes me want to visit Detroit even more now. Perhaps next year for Thanksgiving would be a good idea to attend a Lions game (even though I'm a Cowboys fan) and I have plenty of friends who live in the Detroit area.
  • A lot of those beginning pics of decay have been restored or replaced at this point, or are in the process. Detroit has come a long way since 2009. PS that fountain is actually running again and runs in the summer, and the train station is almost fully redeveloped at this point.

The city and state really should join Canada. They'd be much better off financially and have access to universal healthcare... Seriously though, Detroit has the best bones of any major American city around and its a shame that more people don't recognize this for what it is. A great opportunity to Make America (and Detroit) Great Again and not in a creepy fascist Trump way... What the city needs is to invest in its citizens by unlocking all that abandoned land into affordable places for people to build their homes and dreams again. $1 lots if you build a house on it within a year schemes helped attract people to Alberta where I'm from. All those abandoned industrial sites should be cleared up and made into cooperative investment zones where people can start businesses... And rebuild Detroit's streetcar lines... That's a given. The Q line is a good start of a system that should branch out along every major avenue and street. And all those streets should be lined with mixed-use, mixed-income buildings... 5-6 stories in the suburbs but obviously much higher downtown! I personally won't be happy until I see the unbuilt 80-story Book Tower II rise along Washington Blvd... That would be the ultimate symbol of Detroit's success and revival!
