The greatest thing that happened to me in retirement is I gave away all the plastic bins. Things are in my closets or drawers or gone. I have Nothing in storage. It took two years but just knowing I never need to clean a basement, garage or shed again in my life is very freeing. My retirement gift to me.

Your Mum is a sweetheart. Love your Dad's singing & hats off to another incredible decluttering... your Mums collective thanks just expresses how deeply your efforts have helped them, and how valuable it is to do this in our own homes to get the quality of life back. 👍🙏🙏

Your dad's like Wilson in Home Improvement 😂
  • @Jayzie00
Your mom tearing up at the end is so precious! ❤ You can see what a relief decluttering provides
  • Had to laugh when your Mom said "I did find the needle in the haystack". So proud of her efforts to declutter.

Your mom must have been a great nurse. It’s a job where humor helps everyone

Oh my gosh, just think: back when you two started in her house, she had ALL the stuff but your relationship with each other was tense and fraught and uneasy. But the more stuff you’ve helped her let go, the lighter and more truly joyful your relationship seems. There couldn’t be a better reminder that it’s never about the things, it’s about the people ❤❤❤

Your mom did a great job with decluttering all that stuff from the old shed. That new shed is beautiful.

Add kitty litter to the paint cans. Stir it up and let it dry for a few days. Once dry, you can put it out with regular trash. Much faster than waiting months for paint to dry out on its own. Note: Regular kitty litter not the clumping kind.
  • One of my takeaways from your parent’s house series: From day one in the “Depression Room” to this video today, there were A LOT of April’s childhood memories stored and cluttering up her parent’s house and life. So all of you young adults out there who have moved out: MAN UP like April has ,be a part of the solution and voluntarily GET YOUR CRAP OUT OF YOUR PARENTS HOUSE!😵‍💫😖🙄

Everyone has stuff that gets put aside until later. Then like us you are in your 70's and 80's and you no longer have the energy and it is overwhelming. Such a blessing.

I would like to speak to April's Mom. After decluttering I was down to two huge boxes of papers, photos and sentimental things. Every evening I opened the box and filled a little basket and would sit on the couch and pick through it. When the first box was gone I was so happy, when the second one was gone I almost missed my evening ritual. I think it took several months, but only about 10 or 15 minutes a day. "Yard by yard life is hard. Inch by inch it's a cinch." So my advice is to bring one bin in at a time.
  • It was so great to see your dad up on his feet, after his medical scare last year… outdoor sheds are the worst, you instantly put stuff in and forget about it. I can’t believe you got through two of them, you parents seem so much happier
  • @lindalacey9671
Oh my never put photos in a basement, attic or outdoor shed. Surprised they are not ruined. Your Mom so nice. Your relationship is so obviously a great one! Nice to see parents are ready for change. I always had a hard time getting my Mom to accept change for the better.
  • @TallMChannel
Your Mom is just the cutest!!! Great job you two. Also: you going after Winston made me LOL so much
  • @corinna_maybe
The shot of your mom at the end where she's in front of the shed holding a rake? Massive rocky horror picture show energy😂❤
  • My takeaway from this is that out of everything that was stored away only about 1/3 was worth saving. An important lesson when putting items in a shed or storage. Is it really worth storing something? By the time we go back to it, it has become ruined. Thank you for being so open and transparent. Very hard work and wonderful reward. Job well done and inspiring for others.
  • @labradorite8256
We did a shed today too!! A big one! We literally have a truck load to take away. Hubby is a new man. He's even looking at other stuff he'd planned to keep.
  • @Kate.West.
Well done! So satisfying! I love your mum ❤. I think this is a good example of why it makes sense to donate stuff at the time rather then storing it for someday, as things go bad in storage, when some one else could have enjoyed them. Your mum’s doing such a good job dealing with it now 😊
  • @emummy2
Good Job! Anybody else watch this and say "Ok, I'm ready to start my next decluttering project!" I know I am!
