Sometimes in Texas, it's so hot that you've gotta take an entire day trip to cool off -- and that's where this giant Hill Country lake comes in handy. Covering multiple cities including Lakeway, Lago Vista, Volente and Spicewood, Lake Travis is the ideal place to make a summer splash!

This is the tallest dam in Texas, towering over 270 feet above the surrounding area. It took six years to build, and was originally built to stop the area from flooding, but lucky for you and me, Lake Travis was created! Stop by to see one of the most scenic dams in the nation!

For the best view of the Mansfield dam, head to this nearby park at bottom of the dam. Not only can you see some incredible views, the park also has easy access to the lake!

I’ll just come right out and say it, McGregor Park (known to the locals as “Hippie Hollow”) is the only clothing-optional beach in Texas. So while you can have tons of lake fun here, just be prepared to see tons of folks in their birthday suits…

What sets this Bob Wentz Park (known to the locals as “Windy Point Park”) apart from the many others surrounding Lake Travis is that it’s got a sloping sandy beach that’s perfect for laying out and getting some sun. And if you want to make a splash, SCUBA dive — the locals all love to explore the deep waters because the water is so clear here.

Wake Surfing is an awesome water sport where you’re basically surfing on the waves made by the boat. It’s a beach lovers dream on the lake! The folks at Lone Star Wake Rentals will be happy to show you the ropes and you’ll be crushing the wake in no time!

With all this water fun, you’re gonna need to dry off…so why not air dry? At Lake Travis Zipline Adventures, scenic lake overlook meets adventure. You’ll have a blast zipping over the water on the longest and fastest ziplines in Texas — the final zip is half a mile long and reaches speeds of up to 60 mph!

The League is equal parts classy and relaxed. It’s got chef-driven pub grub, local craft beers and each week there is a new insanely delicious burger…what more could you need after a day on the lake?

At the “Sunset Capital of Texas,” there’s no bad seat in the house — every table has a killer view of the sunset over Lake Travis. Add in amazing Tex-Mex and eclectic copper artworks everywhere, and you’ve got yourself a truly unique experience!

I have spent many happy hours at Lake Travis, beginning in 1972.

Great video. I'm glad that you showed that the lake is in fact man-made. Many people in Texas have the impression that these are natural lakes, like in Minnesota.

Hwy 620 used to let you drive along the top of the dam before the road project 30 years ago. I used to drive out there from North Austin to get Brisket Sandwichs from a little Barbecue shack called Smoky J's which is now adjacent to a 7-11 @ 2244 & 620.

Back in the 80s and even into the 90s that road over Mansfield Dam was the road. That highway yall were on didn't exist. We were homeless and spent a summer livng out of my step father's van there at Mansfield Dam park
  • Chet is this old footage? That lake is much lower than that with Sometimes Island and several of its friends showing up. Its truly a sad site to see.

El Diablo loco! Sounds like I might like the old oasis better but the new one looks cool too

Chet Garner are used to go enjoy late Travis party say like for five years ago after the 2015 Memorial Day floods when the islands went underwater right now the lake is 40% or 30% full, I enjoyed swimming or fishing and hanging out with friends that had a boat. I have stories and pictures from 2019 to today from Mansfield Dam Park where I was standing used to be underwater

Love the lakes in Texas, just make sure you check for toxic algae before letting dogs or people drink water/get in their face. Fun video!

Hope you enjoyed our little get away called infamous!

The devil was a few miles from devil's cove at sometimes islands. No need to go there if not Saturday or Sunday or the fourth of July

I wouldn't swim in Lake Travis for all the Brisket in Lockhart. People jump out of boats into that lake and never come up all the time. It's especially dangerous when water levels are low ... as usual. All 50 Texas lakes except Caddo Lake are man-made meaning damming rivers and submerging trees, houses, etc. you get the picture; great for fish, bad for swimmers.
