This old BEOGRAM 1000 turntable was taking a long time to get up to speed but even then, the speed would be inconsistent.
Initial checking the belt showed it had stretched. I checked the motor and the bearings were dry and in need of lubrication.
The video concentrates on the dismantling and reassembly but with the advice about how to treat the main motor bearing using a bain marie to boil it.

  • Thank you! Just what I needed to get my Beogram 1800 fixed up and running again.
  • you can oil the bearings and it will be fine .Go back to it the next day and its back to square one .I removed the bearings on mine and soaked them in oil for a week heating it up every now and then .I put it back together and so far so good
  • Thank you, I appreciate this video as I need to learn the skills necessary to repair decks like these, great job.

YouTube is a great thing, and you have made a nice contribution to it here. I just got a turntable of the same model and this has helped greatly.

Thanks, Chas! That was a very nice video again. Your videos are always well-paced, you speak slowly and clearly and your camera-work will get more professional over time. If I may make a suggestion: if you’d like to distinguish your channel from the countless other electronic DIY-ones, always take good care that you clearly explain how you search for a fault, how you interpret what you see and how you arrive at your conclusions. Almost no other creator does that and it’s the most difficult thing when trying to fix things.

Thanks for the video, I just bought an SRT 643FF that's currently on its way. By the photos I've seen online it seems to share a very similar motor design to this Beogram, so if it needs work done I'm hoping your video will serve me useful
  • good can you show the connection of the wires from the head to the preamp?

Thanks Chas. Really helpful video. I have a similar deck and I need to change the belt. Do you think it is possible to do it from top of the unit (release the plate) or should I remove the frame like you did?
  • My B&o radiogram has one of these in it .With the same problem I got it working but its a nightmare to do

Hi, IF, when actionning the speed control knob, the speed pulley moves only vertically but doesn't move horizontally , and therefore doesn't allow to clutch the 78 rpm speed ( for instance ) , what would be your best guess ??? Thank you very much for your help .
  • On ne vois pas comment vous remettez en place la courroie , c'est bien dommage, car sur ce modèle c'est tout simplement l'enfer pour changer la courroie :(
