The father of the man who tried to assassinate former president Donald Trump speaks out for the first time. Matthew Crooks was seen leaving a grocery store in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania on Monday, July 22. He said the family is trying to "take care of ourselves."

It's Matthew Crooks' first public appearance since the assassination attempt nine days earlier.

Crooks said in part quote: “we just want to try to take care of ourselves right now. Please, just give us our space."

He also said the family will release a statement once they are advised by legal counsel.

20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks was killed by a Secret Service sniper after opening fire at the Trump rally. Investigators believe that the ar-15 rifle used in the attack was legally purchased years earlier by Crook's father. The family is said to be cooperating with the investigation.

Leave the family alone. Its tragic all the way around. They tried to alert the police and they were blowen off.

How is that "snapping back" that was a very measured reasonable response given the circumstances.

These folks lost their son, though he committed a terrible crime, they should have time to grieve their son’s death, the press should leave them alone 😢

the media are really vultures. Their son may have "transitioned" loony and was used. no parent must ever go thru such terrible times

Sad that people harass the family members who obviously had nothing to do with any of it. Media at its finest.
