As a Turok Evolution fan, I've faced my fair share of hardships. None bigger than seeing the original Turok trilogy re-released on the Xbox Store. So in defiance I'm going to take a look at the deeply flawed, yet kinda brilliant (?) Turok Evolution.

Don't forget to let us know what you think of the Turok franchise!

  • Never understood the hate this one gets. Always had a blast with it. Except the flying levels

One of the first games my father introduced me to. We would never figure how to escape the jungle in chapter 6 because we didn’t know how to get the key on the tree trunk. 13 years later I bought the game again and found out all we had to do was jump around the trunk off the cliff onto a ledge and you could climb the trunk. Game will always have a place in my heart
  • I was twelve years old during the Christmas of 2003. Under the tree was a big box, wrapped up in red and gold paper. It was an original xbox, which my mother had bought from Toys R Us. Alongside it was Turok Evolution. It was the first game I ever played on xbox. I loved it to death back then, I still love it now. Night Dive Studios, please remaster this absolute gem of a game. It may only have a niche audience, but it's worth it.

The game is messy but its still fun. Good times playing it and multiplayer. It's also a frustrating "what could have been" sort of thing, since the game was rushed a year early by Acclaim. It could've been much more than it was if given the chance.
  • My biggest issue with the game was the Air combat missions when you would fly on the Quetz. The controls for it felt to stiff and the parts where you would have to Maneuver through the tight tunnels/caves where if even just the top of your wing touches an object you just immediately blow up and die was frustrating. Especially towards the end of the game where you hand to fly through that some tight tunnel to destroy the power coils in the giant weaponized titanosarus. But other than that I can say this was one of my favorite games ever growing up. The gore and gibbing mechanics was just soo satisfying and the weapon sandbox was really good too. The main menu music lives rent free in my head to this very day.

The gravity gun or whatever it was cracked me up as a kid, throwing enemies into the skybox. Oddly since I didn’t own the console game myself I think I played more of the GBA version.

Turok evolution, my first introduction to the turok series and yes, its heavily flawed but there is charm in there. Ok lets break it down, ladders, fuck sakes ladders. Secondly, Missing weapons, this becomes more prevelant later in the game where your pistol (due to bullet magnetism) was a dominant weapon, however the shotgun lacks it, though it is amazing against parachuting enemies, those pellets fly. The Flying sections are a mixed bag but I am alright with them, the melee weapon is amazing, combine it with poison arrows, no matter the enemy size, they will get brutalized. Missing weapons especially the last level, though I figure the devs are taking their sweet time with this one, refining it, shaping it and online multiplayer deathmatch. Also, I have the gamecube case and what is funny is that the back of hte box mentions riding on a Quetz but in the game, you ride a Tropo. Just a thought.

This game was my introduction to the series other than seeing my friends play the previous ones (wasn't impressed with them or this one). I bought this game after having only Halo to play for a while. The jump from Halo to this probably didn't give me a good perspective, I guess, because I initially didn't like Turok Evo. It mainly came down to not liking the way the game played because the sensitivity of aiming was off in some way, making it very hard to aim at something with precision. I eventually gave up for a while until I got bored of every other game I had. I looked up cheats and came back to enjoy breaking the game rather than playing it the normal way.

Played em when I was a kid. I got the remasters of 1 and 2 but only played through 1 I never got to play 3 so idk how I’m gonna go about that when I get there. I remember renting evolution but I stopped playing it fairly quick for some raisin.
