Nursing and petting a wild baby opossum

I found this baby opossum scared on my deck. He was scared and hissing, as I have two cats that were on the deck also. He was hissing at me (and the cats). I tried feeding him various veggies, throwing bananas and carrots at him, but he was too scared to eat.

He then started playing dead. I got a towel and picked him up and put him in the back of my yard. I started petting him to let him know I wasn't a threat. Considering he was still a baby, I thought he might be separated from his mother, and still nursing. I got some cow's milk and started feeding him through a syringe. As soon as he smelled the milk, he came out of his playing dead pose and began to trust me. Then he roamed the woods and was gone.

Remember, treat animals with respect and care. If you're nice to animals, they'll be nice to you.
