A Band of Brothers Unboxing (with Matt Leitch!!!) | American Artifact Episode 123

Published 2024-04-08
We're back at The Gettysburg Museum of History for an unboxing that's a little bit different from what normally comes into the museum. And with us to add a bit of backstory is Matt Lietch who played Floyd Talbert in Band of Brothers. Super interesting!

Band of brothers is my favourite series ever I watch it every year
  • I had the awesome chance opportunity to meet Mr. Hefron in a deli in Philadelphia (Gooey Looies) while traveling(2010). Sat down and had a hoagie and chatted for about an hour. All the while the deli workers watched over us and protected him from any harm. He was a daily regular there. What a wonderful experience it was!

Shoutout to JD and Matthew for taking the time to take picture with my Boy Scout troop 21 from Auburn NY at devils den in Gettysburg. Thanks guys.
  • I met Guarnere, Malarky and Heffron in Kuwait when they did an MWR tour back during the Iraq war in 2008. They were happy to see our 101st patches

Great video - I have a copy of the book personalised for me by Ed Pepping (one of the lesser known medics of Company E - WIA in Normandy) I was close with Ed and knew him very well through a mutual friend we had in Aldbourne - I live nearby). He added a lot of additional information and images to the book, along with some sand from Utah Beach. A prized possession of mine.

Congrats to Eric Dorr on the expansion!!! Between him and J.D. I can't get enough of Gettysburg and beyond!

I can't speak for current riggers, but in the 1990s when I was a ranger medic I had the riggers modify my M5 aid bag. They used canvas to add some external pouches with zippers and installed an internal flap with divided pockets closed by Velcro.

That is outstanding! I want to go so bad to check out your museum! I'm going to have to watch Band of brothers again just to spot Babe! Thanks for what y'all do!

That is wonderful that you are saving artifacts from the movie, also. So nice that you have the new building. Best museum in Gettysburg!
  • @Chiller11
Certainly looks like partnering with the museum is a win for both of you.

Can confirm those are genuine screen used. I have been fortunate enough to acquire lots of uniforms and equipment from the series. Fun fact those white embroidered tags inside the collar were only used for a short period while assembling the costumes for the production. During filming the extras were stealing the wardrobe and because there were many costumes to keep track of they ditched the tags.

I made a special trip to visit this museum 2 years ago and arrived to find it closed despite website showing it was open. Extra 4+ hours drive out of my way. Looks great but it was quite lousy situation. I did visit gravesite of Richard Winters on that day to pay my respects so all was not lost.

Amazing work as always, I cannot wait to plan my trip to Gettysburg and finally tour the museum and surrounding areas. Would love to see you cover the history of 10th Mountain Division in WW2 and showcase artifacts and their history especially Riva ridge Battle. Would love to see a video of you visiting Fort Drum Museum in NY or the exhibit in Colorado. I know you are a very busy man just throwing my 2cents in, as always have a blessed day and adventure!

I’ve watched the BOB series a million times and not once did I ever pick out Babe sitting at the table as an extra in Episode 4. I literally watched this episode 2 days ago while on vacay in Mexico
  • @Obizzil.
I still remember watching Band Of Brothers at the end of my Basic Training at Fort Knox, one of my favorite memories.
  • @danferrell674
Glad to see the expansion. I assumed it would be somewhere else, it looks great and fits in. Can't wait to see the finished product. Thanks JD
  • A good 15 years ago or so I was in the Ruskin Florida area at a Golden Corral with my grandma. I was maybe 13 or so. I noticed an old man wearing a WW2 Vet hat. I can't remember now whether it was 101st Airborne or not, but I pointed him out to my grandma. Unfortunately I was too shy to go say anything to him, but my grandma took me right over there and struck up a conversation. Not sure how it came up, but he asked if I'd ever seen Band of Brothers and said because that's what he did in the war. I (now) embarrassingly said no, because I hadn't at the time. I've always wondered who that was. I doubt someone from Easy, but never know.
  • This museum is on my number one list of places to visit in USA. Band of Brothers started my obsession about Easy Company. It's a wonderful idea that you have props from that show.
