Everyone's hike is different. This is the story of mine.
In 2021, I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, documenting the story of myself, my trail family, and what it is to hike the trail. This is a film not only about the struggles of hiking the trail, but how it will change your life. If you're looking for gear reviews, resupply recommendations, or gossip about trail angels, this is not the film for you. If you're looking to hear about who hikes the trail, why, and how it changed them, I encourage you to sit back and enjoy my film.
If you've ever thought to hike the trail, I hope this film will convince you of one thing: you can do it.

If you liked this film, please give it a thumbs-up and leave a comment about your own hike- I'd love to hear from you.

The rights to all music in this film are held by their respective copyright holders- I have not profited from this film, nor will I monetize this video in any form in the duration of its time on YouTube.
Footage of the Dixie Fire is credited to MSNBC News.

This film is dedicated to the memory of John Jones, and to my Trail Family, whom I love with all of my heart.

  • Dear viewers, I want to apologize for the ads that are now nested in this video. YouTube adds them automatically after a video reaches 10,000+ views and no revenue goes to me, as was my intent with this film: to never monetize it. I'm very sorry if this affects your viewing experience. I appreciate you all a great deal. - Captain Fantastic

My number of PCT documentaries watched keeps climbing up but this was one of my favorites for the way you really conveyed how the people are the force that keeps you going. The whole story was beautiful, and your friend's incomprehensible footage from Mount Whitney made me laugh harder than I ever would have expected to - glad you included that.

You made a grown man cry. I love you for this. Good work.
  • There were no ads while I watched the whole video. A beautiful documentary, your grandfather is always with you. Great editing and story telling 🌻👣

  • I am honored to have been even a small a part of your story and to have shared such a special moment with you and your father at the terminus. Great job on the movie and the hike, Captain. Truly amazing. -Pez

This was fucking fantastic. I mean, you hooked me with Lord Huron from the start, but this entire thing was all at once crisp and professional and heartfelt and raw.
  • Incredible film, glad to have met you out there and to have been at that monument with you and everyone there. Amazing work.
  • One of my favorite videos about the PCT! Thank you for sharing your experience with us who dream of hiking it one day ❤

This was a really well-done documentary and I've watched tons of them about both the AT and PCT. I thru-hiked the AT in 2021 and I'm starting the PCT this year on March 9th. I'm really excited to get back out there to walk and enjoy the spectacular beauty and happiness that thru-hiking brings me.

I feel like this is one of the most real PCT docs I've seen. It isn't super flashy and that's what I love, it's real
  • What an amazing capture of the trail experience. Well done ! I am sure your grandfather was smiling the entire way.

  • this was just absolutely fantastic, and so emotional and heartfelt - i’m so sorry about your grandfather/father figure, but what an amazing tribute to him. you’re also an incredibly talented filmmaker. you seem like you must’ve been a wonderful person to come across on the trail; you remind me of my brother:)
  • An amazing and moving documentary of the PCT and your inner journey. Thank you so much, I appreciate it a lot.
