Great video, fun to see the turnpike from a trucker's point of view! I've been a bricklayer since 1968 and laid the brick and installed the letters over all the P.A. turnpike portals. They're stainless steel, 5 feet high and 50 feet off the ground. The S in Tuscarora (westbound) is upside down!
  • When I was four years old my family and I moved from just outside Albany New York to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania a suburb of Pittsburgh known as CastleShannon. The Fort Pitt tunnel was scary and because of it I had a little trouble warming up to my new home. Our first trip to Long Island from Pittsburgh we used the Pennsylvania Turnpike and we went through all four tunnels and it helped me a little bit get used to going through tunnels.

This is a great vid, but I am so glad I do not have to drive that stupid Laurel Hill{it is a mountain} bypass any more in the winter. It is by far the worst stretch on the PA turnpike. The PATC took the turnpike from an elevation of 2200ft above sea level in the old Laurel Hill{Mountain}Tunnel to 2605 ft on top of the mountain{highest point on the turnpike} because in 1962-1964 it was cheaper than building a twin tube. I wonder how many people have died on that 3 mile bypass??
