Spiritual Warfare & Deliverance; Recognizing the Internal Enemy by Pastor Brad Knight

Published 2023-03-12
In this sermon, Pastor Brad Knight of City of Destiny in Apopka, Florida begins with the two creation stories in the Bible. He explains the Priestly document, where God Elohim creates the heavens and the earth and establishes the Sabbath and the rest. He further speaks about how God wants his people to expand the temple, and how the Christian faith is unique in the sense that God poured himself out to us and made us his temple. Pastor Knight then speaks about the second creation story, where God Yahweh puts us at the center of things and reveals his name. He talks about the fall of man and how Adam became an accuser for his own wrong-standing before God. Pastor Knight speaks about how when confronted with our failures, we tend to blame others instead of taking responsibility. Ultimately, he speaks about God's desire for us to have a relationship with him, and how we should be honest with ourselves and with God.

He discusses the fall of man and how Adam became an accuser for his own wrong-standing before God. He then explains the external and internal enemies, where the external enemy is the serpent and the internal enemy is fear and an instinct to hide from God. Pastor Knight emphasizes the importance of recognizing the internal enemy and not engaging in conversations with snakes. He further explains the concept of directed consciousness and how it relates to sin. He talks about God as always being aware of our weaknesses and frailties and how His presence is always with us.

Pastor Brad Knight explains that God does not give us the power to do anything for ourselves and that the only power that we have is to call on a Savior. We are meant to start in a place of complete and utter brokenness, without the ability to generate the right answer for ourselves. Instead, our focus should be on the sharing of God's power and grace with others. This is how the Kingdom of God multiplies itself - through our utter dependence on Him for everything. Pastor Brad then gives a practical example of how God produces change in our lives, using his own experience of overcoming pornography. He explains that he was able to stop watching pornography as a Christian by uniting himself with his Savior in the fullest sense and recognizing that he had no will of his own. Through this union of grace, he was able to adopt the his Savior's hatred towards the sin and find revulsion towards it. This is how grace works - not by trying to figure out how to follow another role, but by uniting ourselves with the one who saved us.
