  • Hi Jim, I can’t argue with your top 2 gangster movies, while all lists can be difficult & each to their personal taste & favourites, I’m glad that “American gangster” got some love & obviously I knew “The Untouchables would be up there. A few from my top 20 such as “Once upon a time in America” “Road to Perdition” I thought might of creeped in there, many to choose from & even “Bugsy” is another overlooked gangster movie. And even a few James Cagney might squeeze in my top 20 also 🤔

Great choices Jim 👌 I adore A History Of Violence. Fantastic film. In Bruges would be very high on my list. I think that counts as theyre hitmen.
  • I think I might give Mean Streets a go tonight, I might have seen it when I was younger but I'm sure my memory is wiped to such a point that I won't remember one scene from it.
  • Ronan is about an assassin I believe who's protecting a teen girl played by a French actor and I believe it's highly thought of with De Niro in it.

The only scenes from "The Departed" that I remember were the final shots, literally! And heat should be #1
  • Collateral is one of Tom Cruises best character roles for me, it's a great film for me a definite must watch.
  • I'll have a look at this when I get home and I hope there's a few really good movies in there that I haven't seen yet. Love crime thrillers.
  • The cover of the Monsters movie suggests to me that it's got a bit of satire in it which is the crime drama that I'm not into that much unless the character has really sold me like Mel Gibson with Danny Glober. in Lethal Weapon.

I've seen a few snippets of Black Mass, I gotta check it out when I get a sec. I really love Michael Caine in Get Carter. You could make the argument that it's a drama film too, especially when you see Caine's face after he finds the porno with his niece (or daughter?) in it.
  • The Untouchables is a film I haven't seen in a long time so I'll give that ago sometime during the week.
  • The Departed is one of the best films ever made for me, and yes the Irish are like that lol.
  • American Gangster I'm sure I've seen and I love Russel Crow but not mad about Densel Washington. I'll keep that in mind as well.
  • Just a nit pick here lol, if you can make sure to show the cover of the case for at least 30 seconds so I can see if I recognize some of the characters as I don't always remember them by name but I can put a face to the name. A History of Violence is a brilliant film and if I can remember the lead character has a mysterious past and he's drawn back into it against his will. He's a former bad guy trying to redeem himself with his new life.
