It's winter here now and the heavy frosts have descended, so my home grown tomato crop has reached its end.
Permaculture is about no food waste, so apart from making chutney or pickles, how can you use green tomatoes from your garden?
Try this trick to ripen them inside to extend your tomato season by a month or more, whatever your climate!

  • Hi from sunny North Queensland. I Iove watching your very i formative videos. We are harvesting sweet potatoes and are very pleased with the amount we are getting from our small backyard. There is more than enough to share with family and neighours. We have received lovely juicy oranges from our neighbours. We have also grown kent pumpkins, capsicums, pineapples, and rock melons. It is amazing what can be produced when you just have a go.
  • Thanks, Tina, for the information about picking the last green tomatoes. I always do that before the hard freeze and put them on a large piece of cardboard under the dining table. I didn't know it was important to break them off at the first joint, leaving the top on the tomatoes. Also, I didn't know it is best to turn them upside down. And to make sure they are mature. Then, trimming back the plant to replant it and adding the chicken poo tea and plenty of water. It all makes sense, I will be trying it. We love fried green tomatoes, so I fix those as a treat. I am always happy to get good ideas from you. Many blessings! Janice from Arkansas USA
