High Blood Pressure in the Lungs: Understanding PAH

Published 2020-10-01
Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) is a rare illness caused by high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. PAH causes constriction of these arteries. The reduced blood flow that is caused by the narrowed arteries creates increased pressure on the right side of the heart. The right side of the heart tries to compensate by working harder to pump blood through the arteries and into the lungs. Over time, the heart struggles to maintain this level of intensity and PAH symptoms result.
