In this video I talk about how I have overcome the tendency to compare myself to others, which is a common problem with depression. I still catch myself doing this sometimes, but I've learned to feel better by telling myself these things.

  • This is what I've learnt through my depression: I don't have time for it any more. When I was younger, one weekend I decided to on a camping trip. I didn't come back for 10 years until my dad begged me to because he just had been diagnosed with advanced liver cancer and had months to live. I'm home now. My dad has passed. He made me swear I would see my mum to her end. I am doing that now. Everytime I look outside I see my camper van and I see FREEDOM. But I can't have that right now. I left a prosperous career in railroading and IT to come fulfill his dying request. I'm Japanese-American. It's funny how I ended up being more Japanese then my siblings and cousins. I think my dad knew this because he knew I would not say "no" to coming home to see him to the end.
