🌱 Mysterious Morning at SACRED Temple Lot

Published 2024-05-05
Strange sequence of events for this week's video.

Two weeks ago, I was invited to speak at a Book of Mormon Rally near Independence, Missouri. The area is surrounded by Restoration churches because of a vacant plot of land. In August 1831, Joseph Smith as prophet dedicated this site with original marker stones to build a Temple in the City of Zion where its believed Christ will come to His people during the Last Days.

Some time after the dedication, the Saints were forced out of Missouri by governor's extermination order. After Joseph Smith was killed and leadership became divided, a group led by Granville Hedrick bought the "Temple Lot" and started the Church of Christ. Though small to other Latter-day cousins, it's incredibly resilient. They tried to build the Temple in the 1920's, but the Great Depression halted all progress.

Sounded nuts when I first learned of this, though the 'church nerd' inside me found this interesting.

After getting baptized last week as a new member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it was odd coming across five cardinals that morning (which has been an ongoing coincidence for me the last two years).

Sunday at dawn, I woke up to the sounds of a cardinal chirping outside my hotel window.

Sign maybe?

It prompted me to drive to the Temple Lot that early morning. Upon arriving, sure enough, a red cardinal was in one of the trees right next to this sacred land. I ran across a gentleman who frequents the Temple Lot at dawn, and learned they're quite common in the morning. This unique turn of events led to a congregation of two with cardinals flying and perching in the Temple Lot trees on more than one occasion.

Before I left, he told about an interesting folklore about the land, long before Joseph Smith arrived. The story is way out there, so make of it what you want.

Either way, my continuing cardinal connection with the Temple Lot that morning was curious to say the least. This has to be the end of it.

  • First, THANK YOU very much for the help and prayers with the St. Jude fundraiser that launched last week. Whatever this round of 52in52 turns into, hoping to bring some healing for those who are struggling. For this video, I feel extremely weird posting it. Temple Lot was a big mystery, so to see my cardinal connections that Sunday morning was strange. Let me know what you think below.

God speaks to YOU through cardinals! He speaks to me through music. I am glad that you do not dismiss these cardinals because God knows YOU personally and KNOWS that they mean something to you! I just bet that when the person painted the garden room mural in the Manti Temple way back in the 1940’s, I bet the person was inspired to add a cardinal. They might have thought “why a cardinal because we don’t have those here in Utah but ok I’ll paint one!” This cardinal was put there for YOU way back in the 40’s!! YOU specifically because YOU needed it to confirm your faith and to comfort you!! He is THAT loving and kind. We call it “tender mercies” from God. Your journey has and will continue to bring others to him. ❤ You have been willing to follow him and do his will inspite of the difficulties it might bring. He will strengthen you and bring you peace and joy.

David your countenance is so much brighter and you seem so much more at peace. You're reaching so many people with these videos. Please continue to post them.

Over 20 years ago I visited Adam-ondi-Ahman with some friends (who were Latter-day Saint young adults). Had a very spiritual experience where we all kneeled to pray. We were surrounded by trees and it was so peaceful. I’d never prayed as they were outloud from the heart. (I was still catholic then). They were taking turns praying in a circle. When it got to me (I was last), I started praying. When I was done almost everyone was crying. I guess they thought they were done praying, and were surprised and touched when I joined in. Just another small experience in my conversion and spiritual journey. 😁

Hi David. My story is very similar to yours. I was born in Jackson County, moved to Florida at 15, moved to Texas at 21, Baptized LDS at 23 in Amarillo Texas, took a road trip back to KC hometown, ended up in Independence. The thought came to us, "There is something going on here." Later on during my LDS mission in Belize I ran into two people who I met in Independence: An RLDS Apostle who gave us a tour of the tabernacle, and a Samoan LDS Missionary who was at a Young Single Adult activity at the LDS Independence chapel. My conversion story also has a lot of mosaic pieces that all came together similar to yours. That was all about 35 years ago, now I'm in the Stake Presidency in Santa Fe NM. I have been following you for about a year now. I have loved your journey. Joe Lockwood

With God, nothing shall be impossible. Whatever God wants done or built will be. Keep that mustard seed faith and it will grow.

Congratulations on your searching for truth and joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints! I love your curiosity and courage and willingness to share! 👏🙏👏
  • Hi David, I found it interesting that you mentioned that you saw 5 cardinals on your baptism day and since I recently have been interested in numbers symbolisms in the Bible I asked AI about it and that’s what it came up: “The number five in the Bible symbolizes God's grace, goodness and favor toward humans ¹. It is recorded 345 times in Scripture and when it is multiplied by itself, it produces 25 which is 'grace upon grace' (John 1:16) ¹. The Ten Commandments contains two sets of 5 commandments, the first five commandments are related to our treatment and relationship with God with the remaining one concerned with our relationship with others humans.” I hope it’s something meaningful to you. I’m so glad you got baptized! Welcome brother!!!

David, your messenger is a red cardinal, ours is a meadowlark. They show up at my son's gravesite, he passed at age 14. They would sing for him as we took him for walks in his wheelchair each night. Now when we sit out on the front porch they come and sing for us still.

Thanks for sharing this experience, David. My wife and I visited this spot (temple lot in Independence) back in 1987. I remember we met a man from the Hedrickite church (Church of Jesus Christ, Temple Lot) and he was very kind and friendly. I don't remember all that we discussed, but do recall him saying that they were basically the caretakers of the sacred space and that they planned to hang on to it to preserve it as such. I recall coming away with the feeling that it was in good hands. We also visited Adam-ondi-Ahman and the Far West temple site, both of which were spiritually moving experiences for us, and also the Liberty Jail site, where they have an indoor reconstruction of Liberty Jail, where Joseph and Hyrum were imprisoned for many months in very harsh conditions. I recall when visiting Adam-ondi-Ahman, having a very strong impression that it was also a very sacred spot, kind of a surreal experience there, and such a beautiful and peaceful spot, I felt very much at peace there. We also visited the site of Haun's Mill. I'm really glad you are continuing your channel, and love how you have included the donation fund for combating Children's cancer :)

David, I live in the state of Virginia where our state bird is the cardinal--so I have always seen lots of them. Now when I see cardinals, I think of you and your great search for truth and where that has brought you! Those thoughts make me happy and boost my faith! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas, and testimony in your videos!
  • God speaks to us in individual ways. To some dreams, to some visions, and a whole host of ways through the gifts and powers of the Holy Ghost (Moroni 10’there is a list). Whether it’s a Cardinal or a blade of grass or a vision or what have you, God speaks to us in our language. “ He who notes the fall of a sparrow surely hears the pleadings of our hearts.” Thomas S Monson
  • I’ve been following if any land transfer has taken place for the past few years and so far that land hasn’t changed hands. The Community of Christ has been so kind in selling the other properties and documents that they held. With the way the economy has been going, I can see the need for them to sell this property. Missouri has some deep rooted spiritual connections. LDS ward congregations in Missouri has increased by 25% in the last few years from people relocating. That’s a significant number. I’m grateful for your channel and love that you found where you’re supposed to be! I don’t find the cardinal connection strange at all!❤️
  • I just wanted to say that your countenance seems happier and more peaceful since your baptism. It's so fun to see it. Good work on all you do and for your channel.
  • I have seen two after you spoke of them the week before my LDS Baptism! Which was very beautiful and real!
  • @FasciaJen
So excited for your journey🌟Thank you so much for supporting St Jude🙏🏽🤍🎗️My son passed away from leukemia when he was 6. What a great hospital & organization 🎗️
  • Yay a new video my friend. I’m praying the Anglican church and LDS church members can build friendships.
  • God works through signs, and miracles, He has since the beginning of time. They are directed to people with eyes to see, or ears to hear. It is no small thing that you are seeing these cardinals, they are God's sign to you that He loves you, that you are on the right path and that you finally have truth. We are truly grateful to have been able to witness your journey over this last couple of years. It has blessed our lives.
  • That comment from that detractor at the end - there's a scripture in Mormon or Moroni (I forget which) that mentions that fools will mock, but they will mourn. I often remind myself that just because someone is nasty doesn't mean they are right. Being filled with thr spirit of contention is obviously not a fruit of the spirit
